Remnants of my car after the trees were removed.

It’s just more aerodynamic now
My husband suggested just making it a convertible.
I think it happened to a VW Golf once, that’s how the Scirocco was invented.
I used to have a Scirocco. Loved that car. But it was also a coupe, and it was a \*%\^# to get two car seats in the back. Had to go to a Taurus station wagon for a few years. After an Acura TSX, FINALLY got back to a coupe, even if it was automatic. \[No, paddles are not a substitute for a manual transmission, IMHO\]
Manual transmission fan? Is that common on this sub? My A6 is not even available with manual, at least not the 3.0 afaik. And I’m in Germany, here are way more manual transmission cars on the road than, say, US, but I wouldn’t ever go back from automatic. What’s your reason for your preference? Just curious.
Control. And I like driving a manual. I would also shift at different points than the automatic transmission, depending on the road condition and the traffic. I had a six-speed TSX before this, but at 16 years old, there was no more babying it along with a regular commute.
For me, it’s the fun of it. I had an A6 with the 2.7 twin turbo engine in a 6-speed manual and enjoyed trips with it (despite the nightmares of problems I had). But, I think I’m with most others that wouldn’t want a manual if I were spending most of my time in traffic; but can’t say I don’t miss driving it.
Stop and go traffic for hours is just a nightmare with manual transmission
Yeah, I love driving manuals, my last 3 cars were all manuals - but at this point in time I have to drive through some traffic that makes it a manual really annoying, where adaptive cruise that actually functions without constant intervention makes it tolerable. So I joined the DSG team.
If I got a 2nd car to just hoon around for fun, I would get another manual though.
Nah, both of ours are automatic, except efficiency there is not one reason for manual imo. Even regular Tiptronic switches gears faster than I ever have.
ya manuals can be a pain sometime, just bought a manual a5, best decision ever
A buddy of mine did a manual swap into a C5 A6. Still tempted to buy it off him...
>No, paddles are not a substitute for a manual transmission
Amen. Sorry for your loss.
While I love the fun of rowing my own gears, pretty sure the paddles on my S5 get the job done faster than I could manually. Even if it’s not a proper “manumatic”. Shifts are near immediate aaaaand… I don’t suffer in a traffic jam.
I'd have to agree; it's likely faster, especially the DSG's. There's just something about a manual that exudes excitement.
Not suffering in traffic between Virginia and Maryland is the reason I went with an automatic. My left leg was literally bigger than my right.
F1 swapped to dual clutch because even the absolute pinnacle of drivers couldn't outshift a computer. So no, you can't do it as fast as your DSG, lol.
That's the main reason why I hate coupes!
That physically hurts to look at
It’s fine. That will buff out.
I want to meet your auto detailer. He has GOT to be good.
Narrator: It did not buff out.
My previous post; [https://www.reddit.com/r/Audi/comments/pcc7ix/thats\_my\_2018\_s5\_under\_those\_three\_trees\_a/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Audi/comments/pcc7ix/thats_my_2018_s5_under_those_three_trees_a/) That's what's left. I am sick.
Saw this one yesterday, thanks for the follow up. RIP!
Wow. That’s insane. I am so sorry. Honestly I’m impressed that it doesn’t look a lot worse after seeing what landed on top of it but still. Is a microburst pretty common around the hurricane season?
Not around here. It's just been super warm and humid and it's been building up.
Are you on the Eastern shore of Maryland? My parents live in Easton and during the storm yesterday lightning blew up a massive tree in their back yard. Fried all their exterior lighting around the property. They said the storm was gnarly.
Very sorry about the car :(
No, near Towson. This little microburst got my neighbor's house (trees went through and collapsed the roof), my car, and one other neighbor lost a 25 foot tree.
I too am sick.
Is this the new Audi skysphere?
Thank you for the chuckle. I needed that today!!
I’m sorry for your loss. What’s the flip side of this for you? Same model or changing to something totally different ?
I'm probably getting the same thing, unless I can find an S5 for a reasonable (hah!) price. I just can't put another $11K in cash in to upgrade.
Take it to Los Santos customs, man can fix anything
Pay and Spray for the win!
Opportunity for a new car!
Buy it from the insurance if you get the chance. 95% of valuable parts are undamaged.
Yeah engine and transmission are probably completely fine.
Someone’s Miata about to get an upgrade
ngl a 2.0 TFSI quattro build in a Miata sounds amazing
Can some crazy Canadian please get on it? Maybe the guy putting a twin turbo engine in a lawn mower
The arborist: you should not have parked your car there when you knew what we were doing. Sorry pal
Damn. Imagine being inside when it happened 😳
God wanted it to be a convertible
You can just slide right under toll booth arms now.
I hadn't even thought of that one
Went from an Audi to Innie
That was awesome! Thank you for that relief!!!
Not an S5...
Sorry! You're right. A5 prem. plus with sports package.
Metal cars look all strong until a wooden tree is involved
Welcome to august in Maryland
Hey ... you can cut the top and join a LeMons race now
Audis belong in a garage. :(
Yep, but my husband's 66 Catalina and Harley won on that won. He even has his BMW M3 outside ...
Next week in Facebook marketplace: lightly used Audi, low miles, all highway, I know what I got don’t try to low ball me
I don't need this right now. Shame on you.
Would it still drive if you tried?
Apart from the obvious, the suspension and drivetrain were probably massively stressed by all that weight crushing it down, would expect it will probably start and move, but likely more like my old Subaru (post crushing)
You are probably right. I just can't get in to even try.
Bad luck dude, I'm so curious to see, where are the hydraulic pincers when you need them? :)
I actually think it should because the power train is still good.
I want to cry now
Awe, I did. It did not do much for my Thursday evening.
Sorry for your loss hope everyone is ok
I’m sorry for your loss.
3 trees. See the prior post, [https://www.reddit.com/r/Audi/comments/pcc7ix/thats\_my\_2018](https://www.reddit.com/r/Audi/comments/pcc7ix/thats_my_2018)\_s5\_under\_those\_three\_trees\_a/
Flex tape can’t fix that
I'm so sorry for your loss
Hopefully your insurance company handles this swiftly and painlessly
Oof I’m sorry for you , I hope you will have a brand new Audi soon :)
😐😐😐 is my response….
My heart hurts looking at this
I'm so sorry 😞
That'll buff out
Damn, this made me feel sad… I hope y’all okay tho
That poor car.
Well the good news is that it'll buff right out.
Thank God you weren't in it when it happened
sorry .. that's awful ... I hope insurance one way or another gets you back in another quickly
That can be buffed out. 😆
I am so sorry-that is the saddest picture.
Holy Moly! Hopefully everything works out with insurance!
It's convertible time
I thought Hurricane Ida was tomorrow…
Well that's a fuckmeFriday if I've ever seen one. Hopefully whoever did it had insurance?
The tree did not carry insurance, and I'm going to let my insurance company battle it out with my neighbor's insurance company.
I misread thinking someone was removing the trees and one got away, went back and saw it was storm damage. Should be covered by most home owners. Best of luck buddy!
You said it's totaled in previous post, but the front looks kinda OK, sad if it's totaled
Dibs on the engine/drivetrain...
you should post this in /r/maryland. with the strangely crazy storms we've had over the past few weeks, people there will definitely sympathize with you
My guy said remnants like the whole thing is gone 😭😭.
It’s still here bud, just in a different form 😂
My friend had the exact same thing happen, and somehow the cities insurance covered it. 🤷🏼♂️
Hopefully you come out unscathed!
I wish - two of the trees were mine, but the biggest one that brought down my trees was the neighbors.
Will your homeowners insurance cover it? Storm coverage perhaps?
No, I have separate claims for the house and the car
Make sure your insurance gives you \*market\* value of your car right now when they do a payout. Market values are sky high for used cars at the moment, so don't let them try to give you the bare minimum of what your car is worth. Sorry this happened, but silver lining is you should get way more than your car would be worth if the market wasn't so low on inventory.
Thanks! Good advice!
I pray every day for a tree to fall on top of my Audi. I'm a poet and I didn't even know it.
That should just buff out
Ooh ouch those damned trees right?
Gosh damn it. We need trees to clean the air so we can breathe. But gosh damn smh.
Please build a Roadster out of it
It'll buff out, nothing to worry about
Now you got a nice cab
Not trying to be mean or rude. But when ever I see an Audi get damaged like this; it makes me wanna roll up in a ball and cry in the corner of my bedroom.
I don’t understand people that have nice cars and don’t sure their garages to protect them
DIY Sportback Modication.
RIP. Spills beer.
hmmm I wonder what euro ncaap and nhtsa/iihs rates the roof strength on the a5, doesn't look like it held too well
Against a tree that weighs multiple tons?? Yeah nothing is going to survive that, not even a car with a roll cage lmao
I have to agree with that one. Rolling wouldn't put the force on it three trees did. I have to give the tree credit for landing smack dab in the center of the roof.
