1 clutch homerun was too much for Jason to take

throw_away0211

Or, was he playing through the pain until he got that 1 HR?

lsuprince00

100th career homer* Edit: *97, Blummer had too many bocks Needed that century mark to fade into the corn fields

j1h15233

97*

lsuprince00

Ooof, Blummer said 100 on the broadcast when he did it in NY. I'm failing to link the clip, but check the highlights. Def 97, I stand corrected.

j1h15233

You’re right, he did but he later corrected himself. He got too excited he said.

Vulpinox

he literally sacrificed his body to get JV his 10th win.

KD_218

The season stats are pedestrian for Korey but he has certainly been trending in the right direction... * .271/.340/.482 for an .823 OPS in June. * .304/.385/.544 for a .928 OPS over the last two weeks more specifically. Obviously sample size and the AAA West being hitter-friendly are notable factors, but his trend is what makes you feel a little more comfortable with him getting some big league time possibly. He's making good contact and doing a much better job of commanding the zone than he was earlier in the year. *Also, as expected, the check had finally come due for the Astros to make a roster move after only carrying 2 catchers on the 40 man.*

cweave

If he hits .225/.290/.440 I'll be happy.

JustBigChillin

A .730 OPS is pretty ambitious for a catching coming out of triple A, lol.

cweave

Not implausible, but ambitious sure. He needs to produce at that level to stay.

PapiGoneGamer

He’s hitting against the AL West so it’s not impossible.

NolanRyanGod

His ABs are professional as well. He’s ready.

Shark_Rocket

After all the fuss about getting some new blood in at catcher I'm surprised at the lack of enthusiasm. I for one can't wait to see what the kid can do behind the dish!

Lukealloneword

I think because it doesn't feel like hes ready. Its an injury call up. Not one because he's outperforming triple A which gets people more excited. Im excited for it but I can understand that the circumstances might not get everyone stoked.

Shark_Rocket

Yea that makes sense, but (correct me if I am wrong) don't we have to bring him up to the 40-man roster this year or lose him to rule 5 draft anyways?

Lukealloneword

Correct but you can be on the 40 man and not called up to the majors.

Shark_Rocket

Gotcha, I guess my take on that would be I would rather him get some major league experience now rather than throw him into the fire in October.

Lukealloneword

For sure. Your excitement is not misplaced. I agree it is exciting just saying why I think some fans might not be as excited.

toastar-phone

also to add to that, there is a period after the WS where Upcoming FA's are off the roster before the winter meetings with the rule 5 draft.

HumanRuse

I sorta wonder if this move (in particular the Castro "injury") was at all manufactured by the organization specifically because Lee has been hitting well (and striking out less) over the last couple of weeks. A momentum type of thing. Granted he's almost 4 years younger than your average Trip-A player but it's not like his numbers prior to this streak have been very good.

_jared_p

Well what In the actual fuck. After Castro had a two hit game his ass gets put on the injured list?

BruceLeroythebaddest

That’s why he’s been spacing out those hits. If he used up all the hits he had left his body would give out.

SaucyLoggins

I mean that may have been why Castro was pulled. Apparently Korey Lee has a locker already. They may have been doing Castro a favor to let him go out on high note.

Lukealloneword

Lets see what he's got. Just gimme the defense.

Gus_Frin_g

Well here we go. Trial by fire for Korey, tho Maldonado will be able to hold it down if things go sideways.

illegal_deagle

I hope Maldy mentors Korey about handling a pitching staff.

artificialevil

Yeah, this is possibly the most valuable part of him being called up

Thorlolita

Feel like this is a good audition for Korey. He will start at least 2 games.

Inevitable_Return_47

Exactly, you gotta bring up the kids sometime to get feel of what they can do in the bigs.

jyok33

People shitting on him for hitting .220 in the minors when that’s almost more than Castro’s and Maldy’s BA combined

circle_stone

I think people will argue that hitting AAA pitching is significantly easier than in the show. Korea Lee is the future though so I hope he takes advantage of this time

Former-Billionaire

Korea Lee

circle_stone

Hahaha I'm leaving it

BenDisreali

This is what my autocorrect kept insisting I wanted to search for.

jyok33

Yeah obviously but how can it possibly be worse than the production castro is putting out there? If his defense is shaky, then yes that’s a bigger issue.

wessneijder

Okay so keep trotting our Castro batting .096. come on I'm happy for his home run but that doesn't excuse abysmal performance over the entirety of the season.

MasterMentorJr

Exactly it is impossible for him to be any worse than what we currently have

Burt-Macklin

It would be worse if it was a defensive downgrade…

cantsay

I've been hearing how crucial Castro is to helping Maldy scout hitters and gameplan. I hope Lee has that skill and wants to keep learning.

successadult

Oh wow. If this was Castro's swan song he went out in a big way.

PapiGoneGamer

Here’s to the kid doing well in the bigs. 🥃

rooster1564

A move I was so excited for to start the season. Now it feels kinda meh.

Digital_Individual

I’m so hyped to see what this kid can do. Ik he’s only hitting somewhere around .230 but the potential is definitely there.

CableCubed

I really feel like this is it for Castro. Goes out with the big homer, and ends his career on an injury (with maybe a surgery coming later to solidify it) and doesn't get cut or traded away. Lee is an objective upgrade to Castro, and getting him in now to sit under Maldonado should only serve to have him be fully prepared to take over the starting catcher spot later in his career

lolzsupbrah

No one gonna address the fact that Vince McMahon is on the thumbnail?

ElSummonero

Cause it’s a common reaction meme

CaptainSPR

Not in starting lineup tonight

BigTexOverHere

Well he can’t be much worse than Castro has been this season.

Mgnyc11

LFG!!

wesman21

Damn, I want to pick him up so bad in fantasy, but he is likely only going to catch, what, every 5th or 6th game? I haven't been tracking Maldy/Stro usage this season.

PenoNation

Considering how bad 95% of the catchers in Fantasy are at hitting these days, I doubt there's much of a downside to picking up Lee, even in a part-time role (assuming he hits anywhere north of .150).

dedewhale

If he starts tonight I will be livid...because it's a stupid Appletv game and I refuse to download the ITunes app on my pc to watch on my firestick. Why are they making me sign up on their app and then create an iTunes account? Hate Apple so much.

MrMarquis

It's easy to do and doesn't cost anything. I'm 77 years old, don't have an apple device anywhere, and I have watched the previous apple tv games.

Long way of pronouncing the word "kodi"

dedewhale

Apparently it is if you don't have an iPhone. After i downloaded the app and click the game and then log in. It says you must log in to pc. There from the pc you have to download the itunes app and create an iTunes ID. Only simple log in if have apple devices.

ClutchCity9495

Yeah, that's annoying AF. It'd sure be nice if baseball could get back to being on network TV again, so it's more easily accessible. That apple process is a joke.

SilntNfrno

I don't have any Apple devices, and I've never had to use a PC to login to Apple TV

dedewhale

I have a log in for Apple TV created when I click the baseball graphic. But then it tells me I must go to a Apple device or a pc to create an iTunes account. Before I can log in.

txpharmer13

And do they charge you to watch the game?

sirdadyo

Korey Lee has a lot of work ahead of himself. He has a rotation that has to begin to trust him…. This is a tough deal. Don’t think Verlander isn’t thinking big time.

Devistator16

Make him permanent

DrHaphazard

Does this mean Verlander will pitch to him rather than Castro?

prominx

The only reason Castro will stay will be because of Verlander

ReptarKanklejew

I was told just a couple of days ago in this sub no way we'd see Lee until 2023 at the earliest.

biggio1

Injuries do change things

shotty293

Damn. So many injuries and we're barely at the half way mark 😔
