About 3 minutes ago I wrote down a to-do list for the day. I keep a running note with grocery needs in my phone. I constantly write myself reminders. So I guess to answer your question, always.

[deleted]

I couldn’t live without my notes app on my phone.

PineapplePizzaRoyale

Same. I have so many things stored in there…it’s probably my favorite phone app.

[deleted]

It definitely is my favourite app, without a shadow of a doubt.

rudebish

You should see my google tasks list 🤣 If I don't write something down, I will forget it immediately

[deleted]

I’m the same, I love the satisfaction of marking a task complete!

chiebins

I write to-do lists all the time. Rarely follow them though which is a huge bad habit. But I just love writing lists. Weird. Always wanted to write a blog or something, but I suck at writing and describing things that are in my head.

[deleted]

I find it satisfying when I can cross something off a todo list! I got inspired to write stories from looking at the r/fantasywriters sub, I find reading others work encourages me to do my own. It might help inspire you too.

chiebins

I'll look into that. Thank you. :)

Snowconetypebanana

I keep a small notepad in my pocket for to do lists. I used to use a physical day planner, but now my schedule is more set so I don’t need it. If I don’t write it down, it won’t happen. Also, as a hobby I write erotica.

NoFilterNoLimits

This is what I write too! Such a great outlet

Snowconetypebanana

Yep. Great passive income too.

NoFilterNoLimits

I haven’t tried to monetize mine yet but maybe one day.

[deleted]

Oh that’s super interesting.

Hatcheling

Daily.

[deleted]

That’s super interesting. I remember you mentioned The Book of Love to me before and I put it on my playlist and I really enjoy when it comes on.

Hatcheling

I’m glad you liked it!

dddg

I’ve always done this too- just jotted down some lines for a poem. Lists and ideas and quotes- I write it all down. So many post-it’s and paper scraps. So many active notes in my notes app☺️

[deleted]

Oh wow, seems like a lot of women do have this habit. I used to keep a list of quotes in my phone to help me get through life in my mid twenties also!

thin_white_dutchess

I have a TBI, so all the damn time. I wouldn’t be employed if I didn’t. Ironically, my “great memory” is often cited in my work reviews. Naw fam, I just keep meticulous notes and to do lists. If it’s not written down, it didn’t happen/ I don’t know about it. I have memory issues. No one ever believes me. I’m actually transitioning into a new position and I think I’m annoying a bunch of people by asking them to send me emails instead of verbally asking me for things (inventory), bc the last person was fine with just asking. Sorry guys, my brain is broken, put it in writing. But yes, I have note books/ note pads everywhere, labeled for work, home, random thoughts, and my phone is always in my pocket in case I need to make a note there.

[deleted]

I understand what you’re saying and I always prefer getting instructions from people in writing or by email as evidence as well. I also think working around issues makes you stronger I think.

Deny_Everything_21

I write things down every day. And by writing I mean with actual pen and paper. It's only when I absolutely have to write something down and don't have paper around (I have pens in my pockets and bags but rarely paper) I use my phone. It's definitely not the same to write something on the phone. The act of physically writing something down is so much nicer.

[deleted]

I know what you are saying, sometimes I can only solve things by writing them down pen to paper, but I find my phone notes so handy and it’s much easier I find to type my thoughts rather than write them pen to paper.

stickypix

All the time, every other minute?

AffectionateAnarchy

All the time or nothing gets done

[deleted]

I’m the same.

18karattrash

IME this is a habit of managers and planners moreso than it being a gendered trait, but a lot of mothers end up being de facto managers and I bet it the habit gets passed on!

[deleted]

I think this is true and I also think it’s a lot more common than I originally anticipated.

Hiscuteblondewife

Recently I’ve been trying to write down the random foods I eat to show myself that I can lose weight. I also have been trying to be more like Leonardo da Vinci and write more journals. Still not gonna write backwards though.

[deleted]

I’ve done that myself with a food tracker app and found it helps. Good luck with the journal writing!

NoFilterNoLimits

Constantly. Grocery lists, to do lists, random short stories on my phone I never finish, journaling Constantly

[deleted]

Something about how great minds operate here.

UnapologeticWife

151 notes on my phone. 🫤

[deleted]

I’ve got too many to disclose 🫤

Elorie

Constantly. I have a notepad and keep notes on my phone. It's not the need to remember, but the act of writing things down that I need to best prioritize. I use either the free notebooks I get through work, or now, a reusable notebook that has pages that can be wiped clean and scanned into my email. I get all the benefits of notes without the waste.

[deleted]

That’s super interesting, I find writing things down helps keep a tidy mind.

luckeegurrrl5683

I have an Excel sheet that has a ton of lists. It's password protected because I keep my budget in there and lists like a To Do list, credit card numbers, and addresses. I also have one for Christmas presents for each year. I have lists for favorite movies, places I have lived, and ex-boyfriends. I keep a journal too and write in it at least once a week. I also write on Post-it notes. A list of groceries and a To Do list for my husband!

[deleted]

Your Excel spreadsheet sounds like a wonder of organisation!

luckeegurrrl5683

Thank you! I have had it for 20 years. Yikes...haha

[deleted]

Oh wow, that’s super good going! You’ve inspired me to start a new spreadsheet!

luckeegurrrl5683

Thanks! I also have lists for favorite bands, movies and tv shows. I also have a list of jobs I had and why I quit them.

sunnyk879

Like multiple times a day lolll

[deleted]

Same

spo0kygal

Constantly. Every day, every hour. I hate keeping mental notes. Writing things down means I can completely let go of that thought for now and focus on the next thing!

[deleted]

I know what you are saying. I write it down so I know the thought is logged and I don’t have to worry about it.

StumbleDog

I write to-do lists at work. I'll write a shopping list if there's something important I really need to not forget. Sometimes I write down ideas, thoughts, dreams that I think will provide inspiration for a story (not that I ever actually write the stories, lol)

[deleted]

Im the same! I got encouraged to try and write stories by looking at the r/fantasywriters sub it might help inspire you too!

Emptyplates

Often enough. I like making lists. 😁

[deleted]

Me too. I like making lists and crossing things off them!

Emptyplates

It's so satisfying!

__Loving_Kindness

I keep a running “to-do” and “needs” in my phone and it is my sanity.

[deleted]

I know what you mean I would be completely lost without my phone notes and it helps me keep a tidy mind.

__Loving_Kindness

And you have it all the time… when the random thoughts pop in my head I immediately write them down… people always compliment my that I execute things flawlessly… actually I’m just organized and attentive to detail. 🤷🏽‍♀️

invisible_ink4

I write things down all day long. I have tried doing it on my cell, but I still prefer plain old pen and paper.

[deleted]

I find I vent better when I type, but I do still enjoy pen and paper.

LuckyMeNoodlez

Random: I love a list—even if it’s not mine. Packing list for a three-day trip to Thailand? Lemme see! Grocery list scribbled on an envelope? Aaah, that’s interesting. Sometimes I watch journaling videos on YouTube because I find them soothing.

[deleted]

I’ll check out journaling videos on YouTube, I haven’t taken a look at them before.

[deleted]

I write lists. Not personal thoughts. Too many times things I wrote were used agaisnt me as a kid.

[deleted]

I like lists too. It’s unfortunate people used things you wrote down against you.

esotericrrh

Every day! I rely heavily on my organizational skills, and writing things down is a part of that.

[deleted]

I find writing things down helps me organise my thoughts so much!

sci-eng-person

All day. Reminders to myself in notes apps, my calendar, post its, etc. Work notes in my paper notebook, work notes inOneNote. Reminder messages to my husband on Slack. All the time. My memory is terrible.

[deleted]

I forgot about the amounts of notes I write on my calendar! I also use an app called Evernote’s which is super handy. My memory without writing notes down is also questionable!

senora_sassafrass

If it's not in writing, it doesn't exist in my life.

[deleted]

Always good to have physical evidence!

FearlessEquivalent97

If I don't write it down, it doesn't exist Be it appointments Work schedule Grocery lists Birthdays Like they exist in theory but not in any tangible way that would affect me

[deleted]

I think writing things down cements things into existing!

lovethatjourney4me

All the time! Either in my actual note pad or on my phone.

[deleted]

Me too! I find having notes on my phone the best thing, always with me wherever I go!

TeacupExtrovert

I write everything down and if I don't have pen/paper I send myself a text.

[deleted]

I’ve never sent myself text, but I might try and see if it works!

TeacupExtrovert

It never fails, I send myself a text and then get a text alert and think someone is texting me. I swear, I'm ridiculous.

TenaciousToffee

I write a ton of things down but it's the ADHD fuckery kind of reminders. My notes app has codes/ passwords, little reminders that I still don't know what it's about. 🤣 One note right now is a string of 10 numbers. To what? Do I have an off shore account I don't know about? Another note is "Ask C about the crate" what crate? She doesn't know either. Lmao. Which is funny as when it comes to projects it's organized and detailed. My work/creative life lives on Trello boards. It's labeled, coded, good charts flow and has thorough notations, pictures, cited sources, etc.

[deleted]

Oh wow, your Trello boards sound super interesting and organised! I also find it interesting to read old notes back and try and figure out what I was talking about!

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I’m the same, if it pops into my head, I like to write it down!

boxer_dogs_dance

That's great that you are writing stories. I suggest books like writing down the bones and Bird by Bird. Also writers typically read a lot. Best of luck.

[deleted]

Thanks for that, I’ll check out Bird by Bird. I love to write, but need to catch up on the reading!

somewhenimpossible

My notes app is full of lists. Books to read, movies to watch, groceries, funny stuff my kid said, shopping lists for birthdays (if someone goes “oh I love that!” I write it down for later). I have several notebooks for work and my online class… I also have a OneNote with my small meeting notes (whenever I speak one on one with an employee I write down what we talked about). I have another notebook with short stories and plots I’ll turn into a book one day, haha. My life is writing.

[deleted]

I find writing things down cements it in reality. Good luck with your book writing!

MaggieLuisa

I don’t write anything creatively, no poetry or stories, but I do write lists and in my planner. And I take notes during meetings and such; even if I never look at the notes, the physical act of writing them down on paper helps me remember things.

[deleted]

Yes, I find writing things down also helps me log things into my memory!

louvemusiq

I write down EVERYTHING. It helps me remember things and I like doing it. I was doing some training on a new process for my remote job a few weeks and the person teaching me tried to scold me about writing things down, that's the first time I think I actually realized that most adults don't seem to put pencil to paper anymore.

[deleted]

That’s interesting and unfair that you got scolded. You would think people would be happy with someone trying to learn the new process attentively!

louvemusiq

Her thought process was that she created an SOP for that function and I should be able to just follow it. I told her it was nothing against the guide she created but that I remember things better if I put it in my own words. She dropped it after that.

[deleted]

It’s good she understood it helps you remember things better and dropped it :)

thisismyaccount3125

OH my GOD woman. When I realized how much writing decluttered and simultaneously organized my head - game changer. I don’t write all the time (cause my ex went through my writings and interrogated me over it, so I stopped writing for privacy’s sake), but I’ve been writing again and jeez, I feel like I’ve been Marie Kondo’ing my mind. **do it**.

[deleted]

Yes I find it really helpful to vent my creative thoughts to help stay organised and on top of things.

Accountabili_Buddy

I read somewhere once that brains are for creating ideas not remembering. If you use to much brain space for remembering, then you aren’t leaving room for creativity. I write everything down.

[deleted]

That’s interesting, I’m going to look into that a bit more. I find writing things down helps me log things in my memory!

Even_Praline

All the time! I forget to do things if I don’t. I put everything into a to do list and add things to my phone’s calendar constantly.

rpaul9578

I text myself things to remind myself but mostly rely on memory.
