https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xw5AiRVqfqk Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works 85-92
The third track from Selected Ambient Works Vol II was the music I'd put on as a kid whenever I got a migraine. Just lay face down on the bed listening to it on loop with a damp flannel trying like crazy to fall asleep!
Mezzanine - Massive Attack
Yes! 💯, one of my favourite albums ever.
KLF [Chill Out](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWebqCRw7o4) or [Space](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVc6bltUL1I)
Definitely the KLF’s Chill Out album, I agree 100%
Morcheeba - big calm
Sneaker pimps - becoming x
Aim- cold water music
Bonobo- dial m for monkey
Boards of canada - music has the right to children
Blockhead- music by cavelight
Nightmares on wax - smokers delight
Dj shadow - endtroducing
Upvotes for Sneaker Pimps and Morcheeba
Left my soul there…
Entroducing can be a bastard, chilling out to Transmission 2 when suddenly Mutual Slump licks in and you shit yourself!
Ha yeah tbf I also put on tool and NIN to chill out too. The german cake song on aenima always ruins my vibe when drifting off… also the chill music i put on to sleep if just the sesh music of my teenage years
Upvotes for AiM, Bonobo and BoC
Plenty to be getting on with here! Thankyou
Brian Eno - [Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6rmhXQUPJc&ab_channel=AMacMauro)
About 90% of Brian Eno albums for that matter.
If you want a 10 minute refresh though, I'll go with Dynamics and Unity from the album Infinity by Devin Townsend. Put those two on, crank it to 12 and let it wash over you
Anything by Ludivico Einaudi or Carbon Based Lifeforms
Einaudi is brilliant. Nuvole Bianche is so good
Was coming here with Divenere, Einaudi. It soothes my soul.
The orb; u.f.orb
Thank you for these suggestions! I’m absolutely going to work my way though then in no particular order but starting with the Orb because I just love the name!
Gaia is the 1st tune you need to listen to by the Orb it's one of my favourite tunes from my 1990s LSD days.
Also check out their Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld album.
Collaboration with Lee Scratch Perry
Sigur Ros - Agaetis Byrjun
Jon Hopkins - Music for Psychedelic Therapy
Do Make Say Think - Goodbye Enemy Airship The Landlord Is Dead
Casino Versus Japan - Whole Numbers Play The Basics
The Beta Band - Hot Shots II
Shout out for the Beta Band. In a perfect world they’d still be doing their thing.
3 EPs will forever be a classic
Jamiroquai - Emergency on Planet Earth
My personal chill list
808 state: ex.el
Sheryl crow: Tuesday Night Music Club
Best of Cream
Most albums by Bonobo, my special mentions would go to 'Dial M for Monkey' and 'Days to Come'
My username is taken from the Amon Tobin track Easy Muffin which is a super beautiful chilled tune, though not all his songs are chilled so for a whole album there may be stuff more on the quirky/upbeat/challenging side than purely chilled.
Bluetech is great if you'd enjoy longer tracks, more meditative and ambient. For an album I'd pick 'Sines and Singularities'
The Cinematic Orchestra - Man with a Movie Camera
Nightmares on Wax - Carboot Soul
Could probably think of others but I'll stop there!
Carboot Soul - haven't listened to that in years! Putting it on now, thanks for the reminder.
Kruder and Dorfmeister - The K & D Sessions.
Mind blowingly good.
Wolf Alice's latest album, Blue Weekend, is pretty grand.
Boards of Canada - The Campfire Headphase
King Creosote and Jon Hopkins - Diamond Mine
Tim Hecker - An Imaginary Country
Portisheads self titled
I mean this would be my answer too if I hadn’t overplayed it the last 30 years
Is it possible to overplay it?
But then you have to hear Ian Brown sing.
I love the roses but more to sing along to, not to fall asleep to. Need something a bit more chilled but agree they are fab
I find that on their debut album the production is such that it lulls me to relaxation.
The mixture of bob dylan, Beatles, and beach boys. It’s like LP ASMR.
Mylo - Destroy Rock & Roll
Enigma - MCMXCad or Cross of Changes
All three D'Angelo albums
Brown Sugar, Voodoo and Black Messiah
It's Album Time - Todd Terje
KLF cannot be recommended enough. Lemon Jelly also.
Most of what I'd recommend has been said already (Boards of Canada, The Orb, The KLF etc.), would also add Banco de Gaia's Last Train to Lhasa.
Last train to Lhasa is a simply perfect chill out album. Has loads of nostalgia for me as well, spent a lot of time listening to this in the small hours after clubbing… even now I can put it on and simply zone out.
Tycho- the walk album ,
Chicane- far from the maddening crowd ,
Tangerine dream. Especially the movie scores.
Anything by mazzy star.
Cowboy Junkies - The Trinity Session is a brilliant album to fall asleep to
I’ll give this a go tonight
Honestly it’s great, has a really warm cosy feeling as the band recorded it around one microphone in a church. Blue Moon Revisited is my favourite song, you might have heard the cover of Sweet Jane if you’ve ever seen Natural Born Killers.
No I’ve never heard of them but that sounds perfect for drifting off to sleep to
Update: it worked a treat. Loved it
Nick Drake - Five Leaves Left
The White Room
Mortiis - Født til a herske
Wongraven - Fjelltronen
Arcana - Dark age of reason
Bonobo - northern borders
Nils Frahm - Spaces
I’d always just lie down and put Echoes on, 20+ minutes for the Meddle version normally does the trick for me
Ahh such a brilliant song that, plus there's always the live in gdansk version for when you want Echoes but heavier.
Lemon Jelly — Lost Horizons
Brian Eno — Another Green World
Bonobo — Animal Magic
Smog — Knock Knock (sublime)
Bill Callahan — Apocalypse
I love listening to Abbey Road from *Because*, through to *Golden Slumbers*, *Carry that Weight* and *The End*.
I went through a phase of listening to the Floyd whilst nodding off … the beginning of *Time* always jumps me awake with the clanging clock chimes.
- Balance Presents: Vivrant
- Leftfield: Leftism
- Massive Attack: Mezzanine
- Holst: The Planets
- J.S.Bach: The Goldberg Variations
You listen to Dark Side of the Moon to chill out lol?

Used to always listen to dark side of the moon to space out, until I discovered dub side of the moon.
Loscil (experimental ambient. Pretty much any of the albums)

The beloved - blissed out. Back in the day stoner chill
Neu - Hallogallo is a really chill song, I dunno if chill is what they were going for but I find it so relaxing. It's such a stable beat with really nice air-y guitar and keys underlaying it all.
Hammock - Silencia.
The last year or so, I've listened to The Killers' Pressure Machine (abridged version) when I need a chilled album. One of my favourite bands made a chill album just telling tales from their home town.
Good choices. *La femme d’argent* sounds specifically like driving the south coast of France in a drop top Alfa Romeo in 1977, looking fly as hell, with Monica Bellucci in sunglasses smoking a cigarette from the passenger seat.
Anything by Enigma.
There’s a German guy who had a motorbike accident when young, causing a complete life shift where he decided to devote himself to composing chilled music.
He moved to an Indian Ashram (now lives in Hawaii), renamed himself “Karunesh”, and plays ambient “world music” (bamboo flutes, harmoniums etc)
If you search for playlists called “Karunesh” on Spotify you’ll find some of his stuff = very chilled music.

Lou Reed - Metal Machine Music
Listened to this on the tube a lot during lockdown where the noise of the tube just blended it.
Chillhop albums on YouTube, Spotify and Apple Music are my go to. They have seasonal albums as well which really fit well into the type of weather you’d expect. It’s lovely!
Boards of Canada have what you need.
[Café Del Mar](https://cafedelmar.com/)
