"That's half my fuckin discography!" exclaim prog aficionados.

JPtoony

Pink floyd be like: “Society bad, innit?” (5 minute guitar solo)

Timmichanga01

No need to attack me like that

CountBlashyrkh

Not an attack. Definitely a compliment. ;)

alieninhumanskin10

"Blue Monday" By New Order

Kthak_Back

War Pigs

PaticusGnome

This song taught me how to appreciate drums. It taught me how to really listen to them and isolate their sound. I’m not a drummer but I’ve been keyed in ever since.

Ren1145

Generals gathered in their masses Just like witches at black masses Edit: Imagine writing a rebel song in 1970 that is still absolutely relevent in 2022, 70s band were species of their own

_second_look

I have heard that song nine million times but somehow its not been until seeing this written out did I realize he rhymed masses with masses. Clearly where 2 Chainz found his inspiration for “She got a big booty so I call her big booty”

GasolineTruth

Same, though I think part of the dissonance stems from the fact that he's not using the same definition of the word. Are homonym plays fair game? At the very least gotta be less worthy of derision than just same word, same meaning.

mrjake118

To be fair, war, and likely anti-war sentiment, have been around a lot longer than 1970. You could find one from centuries ago and it would be relevant, [just ask Chumbawamba.](https://www.pmpress.org/index.php?l=product_detail&p=2)

thedudeisalwayshere

Trapped in the Drive-Thru - Weird Al Yankovic

SgtFrampy

No one ever knows about this song. It’s so fuckin good.

cooleymahn

Real ones recognize that as a superior Zeppelin tune.

Sick_and_destroyed

Stairway to Heaven, Kashmir, No Quarter, Since I’ve been loving you.

cortez_brosefski

No Quarter is an absolute banger too, but I think when the levee breaks takes the cake

Luxray209

One-Winged Angel

huskies6565

Roundabout and yes I know.

amaROenuZ

Roundabout is good, but Heart of the Sunrise is the better song off Fragile imho

dextter123456789

When it first came out they played the song over and over and over, took about ten years of not hearing it to get into again

Nafeels

Wild to think an anime AND a meme made this song popular again in starting with the early 2010s. Why not, it absolutely deserves the spotlight again for being the perfect cliffhanger outro.

PEEWUN

I assume you know what comes next...

veinybones

siberian breaks -MGMT it’s 12 minutes so i use it to help me time when to take my dino nuggets out of the oven

m00nLyt23

Shine On You Crazy Diamond - Pink Floyd

oh_hai_mark1

And Echoes. Two of their best long format songs.

SuperMohi

Most of Animals is long format and it's an incredible album.

Mammal_Hands

Glad to see some appreciation for Animals - imo one of the best albums of all time

SuperMohi

I agree. It seems all Pink Floyd fans really like it, but you never see it mentioned or referenced outside of the fandom.

bruh-_-6969

and dogs too

pissboy

My favourite song. It’s lyrics are such a deep tribute to Syd. Once in high school we had to do a lyric project. And I did this one. My teacher was so pissed that there was such a long instrumental opening I ended up getting detention. Then he made me apologize to the class for wasting their time. So I just wrote pink Floyd lyrics as apology letters. Fuck you darryl, terrible teacher. Dude just phoned it in on lazy ass projects like “play a song for the class and discuss its lyrics”. It’s a tribute song to a former band member who had mental health issues. Beautiful lyrics.

g_e_r_b

I don’t know Darryl but I already hate him.

skhanal271

Yeah fuck Darryl man, SOYCD is a masterpiece

Skorne13

You don’t need no education from Darryl.

Nermalfan

“Pictures of You” by The Cure

Spirits850

Disintegration is one of the best albums of all time, no one can change my mind about that.

UberN00b719

Kyle Brofloski agrees with you.

angelvvitch

Fun fact about Disintegration- Fiction/Polydor thought it was a “career-killing mess” and stalled on promoting it but it immediately went critically huge and they had to eat crow moral is record companies know dick

bikesbeardsbeers94

I Will Possess Your Heart by Death Cab For Cutie

Mediocre_Advisor3416

I was gonna go with transatlanticism. Preferably preceded by tiny vessels. Maybe that’s a cliche answer though 😂

A bunch of great Metallica songs: The Unforgiven, Nothing Else Matters, Master of Puppets, Welcome Home(Sanitarium), Disposable Heroes, Orion, Blackened, One, The Shortest Straw, The Frayed Ends of Sanity, Ride The Lightning, Fade To Black, Creeping Death, just to name a few.

There's so many great Dylan songs over 6 minutes long. Like *a lot*. Which isn't as common for such lyrically dense songs

You are at least six minutes into that song when he says "but that's not what I came here to tell you about."

05110909

The bit with the drill sergeant always makes me laugh uncontrollably

RobNobody

I've been singing this song now for twenty-five minutes. I could sing it for another twenty five minutes. I'm not proud. Or tired.

Brundleflyftw

Lol, dude asked for songs over 6 min, not 3x 6 min.

ChemtrailExpert

Wasn’t it 30 minutes? My dad always made me listen to it on thanksgiving and basically it took the whole evening LOL

clintj1975

It's a touch over 18 minutes, which coincidentally is also how much time is missing from Nixon's White House tapes.

NeoPossum

*You're our boy*

Dare63555

Paradise by the dashboard lights.

RolyPoly1320

Also Bat out of Hell

RobNobody

Really, at least half the songs ever written by Jim Steinman.

[deleted]

Fun fact: when he was cast as Eddie in the Rocky Horror Show, Meatloaf surprised songwriter Richard O’Brien by actually nailing the lyrics of Hot Patootie. Previous Eddies had not been able to get through the whole song and relied on the music to cover. Meatloaf had been doing Steinman’s stuff for a while at that point, and Patootie was relatively easy by comparison.

phred_666

I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That) would be my choice by Meatloaf. The single version was about 7 minutes but the album version is over 10 minutes.

racer_24_4evr

Let it happen - Tame Impala. The full song is an amazing ride that feels like going somewhere then coming back. And though its not 6 minutes, Grace by Jeff Buckley is incredible
