Hello, that's me. Since I've cut alcohol out of my diet mostly I've really struggled with how much water I drink, to a very unhealthy point. I find it very hard to not drink water constantly. I didn't drink beer all day, but most nights. Now all day, every day, I need litres per hour and really struggle with keeping it to less than 8-10 itres a day. I'm 6'3 and 80 kilos if that helps. I drink a little more than is healthy and wish I could drink less, but this is me honestly keeping my water intake down as much as possible. Going doctor next paycheck don't worry, I understand it's prob diabetes or something
Ask your doctor about drinking Propel. It's sugar free unlike Gatorade, but also replenishes your electrolytes. I am ***not*** a doctor, but I believe the main threat with hyper-hydration is just flushing the electrolytes, so this may be a way to help you slowly ween down. Again, not a doctor, so ask one first. This is just an uneducated suggestion.
One of my previous employers had a contract with mount olympus for their water coolers. That water literally just made me more thirsty.
If all of the water is from the same place might be worth switching it up. Might be some absorbed mineral content in your water source that triggers a thirsty response for you.
No need to be angry, I'm not in America so don't have any worries. It'll be paying for one doctor visit then everything following on from there is free except meds, which can be subsidized too! I'm paid next week so it's all g!
Yeah you would 💯 have a seizure and possibly die. Look into the contest, “Don’t wee for a Wii.” IIRC, girl died by holding in her pee for so long, she diluted the sodium levels in her blood, (I assume as well
As other important electrolytes for cardiac function such as potassium, Mag and calcium), went into a coma and died
This is also why you shouldn't only drink water during like physical events like a marathon or triathlon. You need electrolyte drinks to restore the salts you're losing since water doesn't do that. And at a certain point you are just making the imbalance worse
Yup, "hyperventilating" would probably be the result of an addiction to breathing.
But but but Ok, while I agree- c'mon guys- we know what OP means. Let's respond to the call of the question, not get stuck in pedantry.
That’s foundational to Reddit. No one wants to have a meaningful discussion or apply any elasticity to their thinking if there is a chance they can be right or sound smart.
Addiction of any kind means it's a detriment to important areas of your life. If you avoid having a social life, skip meals, skip sleep, and stress about studying all the time it's bad.
Oh wait, that's just college..
Being on the BPD spectrum, I have a highly addictive personality. When I put this toward passionate interest and some sort of self improvements like exercise.
Am completely addicted to my long distance bike riding I cannot go a day without. And that's been one of the best addictions I've had in my life as of late.
Pretty much by definition, an addiction is a habit that's out of your control and disrupting your life in a negative way, including relationships and work. So there's no such thing as a healthy addiction.
There isn't a healthy addiction.
"Oh, but water is good for you" yeah but drinking 19 gallons a day is not.
"But exercising is good for you!" And you can still over exercise and cause damage to your body
Everything had to be done in moderation, even if it's typically considered healthy
well you see, if you breath too fast then your brain gets the funny feeling and you pass out from whatever hyperventilating causes you to pass out from
do that enough and its brain damage baby
I heard somewhere that if you ignore your survival instincts and manage to drink 10 gallons of water in 10 minutes, you effectively drown yourself. No idea if it's true, but I'm sure some idiot's attempted it.
A good friend of mine started going to NA and now she’s addicted to being sober. Going on two years, definitely proud of her but we may need to have an intervention.
My names nick and I'm an addict. We can become addicted to meetings and the program. Like it's better than addiction manifesting in other ways but still can become unhealthy to the point where it gets in the way of relationships and life. For the most part it's really positive though especially early in recovery when it's hardest.
You joke, but I know a guy who only smokes shitty homegrown weed since he found out about the Vietnamese human trafficking/slavery that happens in some places.
I actually *don't* know what they mean, because either way I could take this, it becomes a very silly question.
Either it references habits that manifest with impulse control or other disordered behaviour (ie, inherently unhealthy)
Or it references habits that *don't* have those qualities, meaning they're just...*habits*. So the answer is "literally every healthy habit in existence", so what's the use of the word "addiction" here, and is OP **seriously** just looking for a list of "generally healthy habits"?
It’s not because op misword his questionthat we can’t find an answer. Even if he is gramatically wrong, it would be hypocrite to play the foolfor that.
I’m addicted to reading, but it’s still impacting me badly. I can’t get any work done because I’m too busy reading, and can’t be bothered to do my work. 😂
I'm addicted to learning. My mind is great at absorbing new information, but normal daily shit causes anxiety. So when I'm stressed about housecleaning, bills, or anything else in life; I just turn on Crash Course:_________ and learn for a few hours.
Now I know this sounds great, and it *has* made me crazy smart; but there's a dark side. While I'm learning I'm not taking care of my responsibilities. I was learning about addictions recently, and appearantly addicts turn to their drug of choice as an escape from their lives. That's when I realized I do the same thing with education.
So essentially I've become the dog in a housefire saying "This is fine" as my house burns down around me. I've watched educational videos while they cut off my utilities, and sat outside Wal-mart using their wi-fi to watch because I was homeless. I can't even get a job with all this knowledge because self-study doesn't come with a degree, and no employer believes me when I tell him I know the material.
So I'm addicted to education, and it's ruining my life.
I am aware. Most folks consider education healthy, and guy asked for a healthy addiction. This is mine.
For more fun, try explaining this to your therapist.
Nothing, if you're addicted to something pretty much by definition it's harmful. Sometimes people misuse the word but actual addictions are harmful and distressing.
The gym.
Lately I've been approaching it like an addiction, and its been good for me. You get a fantastic pump off a good resistance workout, and its a high worth chasing. You also have a great runners high from an extended cadrio workout, and you feel like a million bucks afterwards. You add in a good hot tub, sauna, steamroom, and shower afterwards with a good morning shave and it sets your day off right.
Exercise or Yoga? I ruptured my muscles because of excessive weightlifting.
Reading Books? I have been reading the Mahabharata since the past 4 days, non-stop. I haven’t eaten or slept.
Gardening? Oh I am planting saplings in my farm since the past 98 hours. I just pause to sleep and eat.
Volunteering? Sorry guys I just volunteered to give away all my assets so I think there is no party this Saturday.
In moderation, coffee/caffeine. I'm not talking 8 cups a day, but enjoying two good cups of coffee per day is something I really look forward to and would genuinely struggle to quit.
No addiction is healthy by definition
ITT: showcase of people addicted to arguing on the internet
Uh-oh
No, you’re just addicted to gaslighting people /s
You’re*
Addictions are inherently distressing and affect areas of someone's life like social functioning etc.
So an *actual* water addiction would be if someone drank so much water that they flushed out all their electrolytes?
And too much water in a short period of time can be lethal
Yes. An addiction is when someone does something so much that it negatively affects other areas of their life and they can’t stop
Yes, it would be a behavioral addiction

It really does sound like diabetes. I'm kinda angry you have to wait for money before you can see a doctor to be honest. Healthcare should be free :|
No need to be angry, I'm not in America so don't have any worries. It'll be paying for one doctor visit then everything following on from there is free except meds, which can be subsidized too! I'm paid next week so it's all g!

Yes indeed
I know I read the header and was like "Oh! Trick question!"
Now I’m just farming the karma
Yes, have some.
Correct - addictions destroy, passions however build
I am passionate about smoking crack
Breathing?
I don’t think that’s what addiction means.

True this
What about studying?
Addiction of any kind means it's a detriment to important areas of your life. If you avoid having a social life, skip meals, skip sleep, and stress about studying all the time it's bad. Oh wait, that's just college..
You studied in college?
Search for Burnout Syndrome
You can eventually as an adult get analysis paralysis. You study every result, every possible outcome and you become very decision averse

This is very true! Although some addictions are more harmful than others.

Even a dick addiction? An addicktion?
Pretty much by definition, an addiction is a habit that's out of your control and disrupting your life in a negative way, including relationships and work. So there's no such thing as a healthy addiction.
Might as well face it; you're addicted to love
The way I heard it, you're addicted to spuds...
Your greasy hands. Your salted lips. Looks like you found the chips.
Your belly aches. Your teeth grind. Some tater tots would blow your mind.
I've been singing Can't Watch This since my wife accidentally reminded me of it two days ago. She regrets her life.

Still not a healthy addiction
Air

I have a breathing addiction
Well, 100% of the people who breath die, so that addiction is definitely gonna kill you
Funnily enough, 100% of people who Don’t breathe also die 😂😂
Yeah but that's only because they're going through withdrawal.
Well you’re not wrong 😂
smart lol
A baby that can’t breathe doesn’t

Normal is a setting on my dryer.
I'm addicted to moderation.
It's a mix of 78% Nitrogen, 21% Oxygen and 1%of other things that could potentially kill you. But I just can't get enough of that stuff.
10% skill
15% concentrated power of will
5% pleasure, 50% pain, 100% reason to remember the name
But that's only 80%!
17 % ability to calculate percentages
Isn't the first line "20% luck"?
Second line is 20% skill:
What's it called
Air
Dude, I fucking love air.
Air actually slowly ‘poisons’ you until you die…
In arabic, air means dick
I breath dick then
You die from it if you get too much. Both oxygen and nitrogen can kill in excess amounts. So technically, a true addiction to air would kill you.
Crack cocaine for sure!
I can support this, I've been doing it for years! 😁 great shape 10/10

Op: *question* Reddit: "wELl aCtuAlLy thE dEfiNitioN oF aDDiCtIon..."

Maybe reading. I don’t even care if it’s vampire romance novels. It’s probably still healthier than interacting with our shared reality.
I’m addicted to reading, but it’s still impacting me badly. I can’t get any work done because I’m too busy reading, and can’t be bothered to do my work. 😂
It’s funny you mention that. The classic “Don Quixote” is kind of a case in point in what happens if one reads too much.
The word addiction means that it has become unhealthy. If it’s healthy it’s not an addiction yet
NOT SMOKING CRACK.
