Nothing nurses dont piss me off really, what pisses me off is the assumption from the general public that a doctor doesn’t do anything and nurses do everything. I have so much respect for you guys, you deal with a heck of a lot you keep everything on the wards etc running smoothly, administering day to day care and medication. But the public don’t seem to understand the hardest decisions come from us. The surgeries, the consequences of those actions.

As a nurse, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you guys. And you are so right. I believe we are a team and the best patient outcomes come from doctors and nurses working together. To your point, I’ll tell you this: not even on my worst shifts as a nurse would I want to be a doctor. Some of the shit I have seen you guys go through is just absolutely remarkable. You’re a general surgeon with a full day of cases scheduled tomorrow and you’re on call tonight? Here are 5 appendixes to take out and a couple of colon resections as well. Got a little snippy with a nurse because you have been up for two days? Here’s your reprimand because you’re not allowed to be human. I’m not saying doctors get a pass, I’m just saying there are times we don’t remember doctors are human. I agree with you that people don’t recognize all you guys do and they automatically assume your life is cushy and easy because you’re a DOCTOR. Thanks for all you do.

Not to mention, it’s the Doctors that have to give the bad news to patients and families. For the life of me, I’ve no idea how that doesn’t wear them out after working long hours.

What about nurses out in the field trying to tell EMS how to tend to a patient?
