Not many people truly appreciate the vast distances between everything. The moon for example is always thought of as really close (astronomically it is) but you could actually fit all the planets of our solar system between us and our moon. In other words the moon actually further away from us than the diameters of all the planets added together!

I’m too lazy to check if this is true so have an upvote.

Haha thanks, here's quite a good article if it's of interest: https://www.universetoday.com/115672/you-could-fit-all-the-planets-between-the-earth-and-the-moon/

You are staring into the past.

Everything once fit inside an infinitesimally small point.

CONCRETE_LUBRICATOR

They are like *REALLY* far away, man.

Barney_Ingi

If you could drive a car directly to the moon without stopping at 100km/h it would take you about 23 weeks to get there.

CONCRETE_LUBRICATOR

that's far out man!

Not so much a cool fact but a misconception. In every space movie about navigating through an asteroid field, it's bullshit. At least in our solar system the asteroids are, on average, 600,000 miles apart. Edit: Solar system, not galaxy. I'm going on very little sleep.
