Hey guys, what’s a nice bottle of bourbon?
By - v0ta_p0r_m0ta
If you don't know anything about bourbon, just get some Maker's or Four Roses or Bulleit or any of those $30-$40 bottles.
It’s not for me, it’s for someone else Soo I’m looking to impress😬
Even so. Unless you want to impress them, then get the $50-60-ish dollar variant of one of those $40-ish bottles.
Unless you really want to impress them, then find some Pappy Van Winkle.
Okay this guy likes ‘Devils Envy’..where does this type compared to the others you listed? Is there one better than this? Thanks for the info btw.
Never heard of it. And googling "devil's envy bourbon" just returned some Angel's Envy links, which I've never had. But, I mean, if he likes that then it makes sense to get that. You kinda have to specifically be searching for really bad bourbon to find bad bourbon these days, and that's usually the ridiculously cheap stuff.
Right! Sorry it was angels envy lol. Ok cool, thanks!
Angels envy is good stuff. If you want to spend a little bit, look for cask strength. Four roses also has a cask version. If the person you’re shopping for knows anything about bourbon they will be happy with something along these lines
I think you mean angels envy. It's a higher end bourbon finished in sherry casks if memory serves.
Booker's, Baker's, or Blanton's, if you can find them. Pappy is just not possible to find, but if you can find rip van winkle it's about $100 a bottle.
More likely you'll end up with basil Hayden's, or makers 46 which are both respectable.
States with ABC state run stores usually have a lottery every year for Pappy's or you can try Utah on the release date. They are not allowed to mark it up so its reasonable. But only like 150 bottles to the state. Which is mostly dry which ups your chances.
Can't go wrong with knob creek, makers mark, or bulleit
The next one.
Bourbon specifically or whiskey in general? For bourbon all the straight bourbons are rated but Four Roses is nice and traditional, for whiskey in general I like Whistlepig simply because I have a groundhog under my deck.
Get the single barrel 4 Roses. If you can find it, Angels Envy has a port finished version. I'm big on finishing in Sherry or port barrels for my whiskey, so go with that if you can find it.
Woodford Double Oaked. Not too expensive. Incredible flavors.
I’m always a fan of Buffalo Trace
Willet is probably my favorite, followed by 1792.
Just get the cheapest, halfway through the bottle you won't know it's cheap any more.
One foot Cock
Blanton’s is my personal favorite
Here to second on the Blanton's. Wild Turkey being my "cheap" go to.
My personal reccomendation for the money is Old Forrester 1920 Prohibition. Almost as good as Booker's but much cheaper.
If you want something smooth and easily drinkable... Get Angel's Envy.
If you want to drink a lot of it then stock Buffalo Trace. If you are here in Kentucky... Try to find a bottle of Early Times... Very very good for the price but hard to find.
Booker's is good but way overpriced now for what it is. Same with Weller's. Go with one of these though if you are splurging for a gift. The box that Booker's comes in makes it very nice for this.
I like Makers

Buffalo Trace. It’s not last too long on a backcountry elk hunt
Pappy Van Winkle if you can find it and have a lot of money. Markers Mark 46 is very good. Regular Markers is my usual drink
A full one
A free one.
Johnny Drum single barrel. It’s like $35 and is fantastic for the price point.
Woodford Reserve (the single barrel is off the chain, but standard is great)
Can’t go wrong with any of these.
It’s a whiskey but I can’t recommend any other alcohol more than jack Daniels Tennessee honey
Evan Williams single barrel
Old Forester 1920...
