There is something very sexual about pomegranates. Great composition.

It's really beautiful! Also, this is probably a dumb question, but how do you paint on linen.

JulietteVaissiere

Thanks! And not a dumb question at all: Basically, whenever you are painting with oil (whether on wooden panel, or linen/cotton canvas), you have to prime the surface so the oil paint doesn't bleed into the substrate (if you use oil paint directly it will eventually make your canvas or wood disintegrate.) Historically (since the Italian Renaissance at least \~ 15th c.), artists have solved this problem by "priming" their canvas/wood. This was done using rabbit-skin glue ("sizing"), and an oil-based gesso. Nowadays artists can either choose to do it the "traditional" way, or to simply use acrylic gesso. (I often go with acrylic gesso because it is cheaper and much faster). It is relatively cheap, and you just apply 2 or 3 thin coat on your canvas or wooden panel before you start painting! (You can also sand it in between coats to get a smoother surface, but be careful not to breathe the dust in). (You can also find pre-stretched and primed linen canvases from most art places if you'd prefer). I hope this was helpful and not too long haha. If you have any other questions I'll be happy to help! :)
