Maybe just say something like “I I am greatly intrigued and appreciate the offer. The culture sounds like something I might like. Unfortunately I cannot afford to take a pay cut is there any chance for at least a lateral move?”
I just took a new job for a 20k pay cut. I start in 2 weeks. Guess I'll find out if it was worth it to move back where I prefer to live, get my weekends back (no more driving 4 hours each way to see friends) and work for a job that aligns with my ethics.
I'll be real man, in this candidate market if you're being headhunted for less money then you're likely VERY overpaid right now (unlikely). Explore your options quickly and see what's out there.

frend - go back and ask for double. if they say no, tell 'em to get back to you when they change their mind.

i'd NEVER take a paycut in an inflationary environment unless I fucking *hated* my current job and just wanted out at any cost

I DO! NO, YOU CAN'T.
why? because you'll be fucking kicking yourself when you find out someone else in a similar position is earning 20k more than you.
you're obviously decent at what you do, there's a jobs shortage, so dream up the ultimate job and go get that sucker.
people in aged care who do their jobs properly? fucking gold right there. find someone who thinks that of you.
What PoliteJello said - especially if you know the management, try and negotiate upwards to at least match your current salary, plus the make it your own bit if you're keen but the cash is holding you back.
The worst they can say is no, doesn't hurt to ask.
to me if a company is going to be *that* tight over a measly $10k, then that's not a great indicator of their balance sheet/business model/future prospects/overall level of generousity
job changes are your one time when you have leverage to negotiate higher pay, I wouldn't want to waste them (personally, up to you of course)
What BuiltDifferant said.
Talk is cheap, and so are they. Perks and vague promises about the atmosphere and workflow won't show up in your contract, but the wage will. Then the cool, laid-back attitude vanishes and only the weak pay remains.
You can hold them to the money, everything else is slippery. So the money has to be sufficient because the rest may vanish, and you should treat it as though it will.
Yeah I’m not sure bro. Some new workplaces say they will do all this and not do it. Like if you say I want a stress free role they may say it is but it ends up being the opposite.
I’ve worked for big and small businesses. Current one is owned by a 60bn market cap company. I’ve worked for a small business. I’d rather work for a bigger one

Where did "hault" suddenly spring from? I've seen it so many times this year and zero before then.
Halt. **I**t's halt. It's right there in the headline of every trading halt announcement.
Edit for a button: Chopped sentence re-capitalised (not in the fiscal sense, unless you wanna pay me for shares in it).
I thought you might have been like me and been bothered by spelling and punctuation, correcting your own past posts if you noticed slip-ups. Then I saw you didn't capitalise your "I" so I guess it's genuinely just about "hault"
As you were...
Heyyyy waitaminute.. 4/10 of your last posts don't begin with a captial letter. WORSE THAN HITLER. Or.. or is that the joke? I don't know, everything's a struggle, really.
After yesterday's virtuoso performance, I'm going to have to declare you the expert on Ha-ha-ing. I upvoted every single one of them, because fuck the police.
Lol, *the magic evil law* still works.
I do care, but I don't type anything, it's all just drag finger on screen make swirly line magic word come out (not Swype, but the Google equivalent). Then if I change a sentence, it's clunky to move a cursor, plus I can't fucking see as well as I could a few months ago so if I'm not giving the $10 servo specs a go, then I can miss a thing or ten.
And I don't go back and check, generally, just to be fair and to let the law of "you will more likely make a mistake when correcting someone than at any other time" have its way, which I think is just being a good sport. If I catch one when re-reading to remind myself of what I've said, though, that's fair game. There's probably one in here, somewhere.
Nonetheless, "hault" can get to fuck and so can "loose" for 'lose', "where" for 'were', and, to some extent, the incorrect "your('re)" (though I'm growing almost numb to that one, it's time-honoured, kinda, whereas the others are more recently commonplace).
I don't do this for every instance I see, or there'd be no time for anything else, but sometimes the pressure must be released.
I would declare it a trap, say it's a dog, and confidently belittle the HotCopper forum for thinking this will go anywhere.
So 100% guaranteed to moon.
I’m just kidding. I go too a few nbn sites and they use that bqt scan cards. Pretty good! Obvs they have competitors but there dormakaba partnership may increase sales a lot.
Any of you nerds know if private companies can actually enforce parking parking fines? If I keep ignoring one from a University will they just fuck off and give up?
Lots of answers here, though what you’re after is a mix of each. Only the council or cops can levy a “fine”, so that means private companies can try - but in court all they’ll get are damages…so if they can prove you occupied a paid space for a day - they’ll get that awarded to them - not any self imposed penalties.
My old uni played it differently though - they engaged council to enforce their car parks which meant we had to deal with the fine.
If it isn’t council then tell them where to go or else see you in court.
Am not a lawyer - just a cranky fuck who’s done it a few times as I’ve got shit else to do on red days.
Hahahaaha this is an epic response. I thought that was the case. It’s not council or police. It’s from the University themselves. Looks like they aren’t getting paid
Though old mate above might be right re making it your issue with graduation etc.. unis seem to get away with making whatever rules they want to make as they know you want that expensive degree.
Many moons ago I know some uni's would withhold results for any outstanding (parking, library, whatever) fines. No idea what recourse they'd have against contractors / visitors to a campus.
If the uni has a record of your car rego to match up with your student ID and there's unpaid fines they may defer your graduation until the fines are paid. Not 100% on this but I think that's how it worked where I was.
Hello friend.
Yes and no. Fines aren't enforceable without legal action. It's not in their favour to enforce payment until you've exceeded the cost of legal fees and going to court. They'll also need evidence that you were there for each fine they try to enforce.
So you'd be an idiot to pay any of them.
But! It is private property, and with sufficient evidence that you do park there all the time and they've made an effort to discourage you, they can legally have you towed. Most towing companies don't give a fuck about procedure, and will take your vehicle away without attempting to find the owner (required), and they sure as hell will claim they required 'specialised equipment' to move your vehicle, which in the humid state of Queensland will cost you $440.
So, you should evaluate the cost of parking illegally for a period of time. If you think the potential $220-$440 tow fine is worth the risk vs paying for parking, i think you're good to ignore up to a a fine value of $2,000 from your third or fourth ticket (first couple likely have no evidence of you being there)
Hope this helps.
Hello! Thanks so much! I thought that would be the case. I’ve just ignored them previously and won’t be returning to the car park ever again so hopefully they just forget about it. Or Chuck it on HECs the spineless fucks
I don't think they can get your details to post them to you. It's just a shakedown hoping you pay when you get the ticket placed on your car. I had one once and ignored it, never had any follow up.
I thought that to, but they did manage to get my mates details from somewhere, and did threaten law suits.
According to the business owner, it would cost them about $600 just to attempt to get the fines enforced, and they needed evidence the vehicle was there in excess of 2 hours per offence, and they they were illegally parked.
Suffice to say my friend hasn't paid the 6-7 fines without issue. I got 3 myself, though never contacted.
Someone tell me why I’m wrong:
Yes inflation is high because of Putin and the printing press we left on too long, but, given most people accept that globalisation has peaked and we are moving from just-in-time to just-in-case, is it fair to assume we can even get back to ~2% inflation?
We are actively disassembling supply chains with China, Russia, Taiwan and while we transfer this expertise elsewhere inefficiencies are going to cost us.
I’m not necessarily implying stagflation, but I’m a bit fed up with all the blame being put on Putin and central banks.
Someone explain to me why I’m wrong and should be back in kindergarten.
Also yes I’m trying to get my karma up, but my point still stands.
Idk why you think globalisation has peaked we just had a global pandemic. Feels like saying the stock market has peaked one year after the GFC.
Also do not underestimate the amount of suffering governments are willing to inflict on ppl in order to preserve their interests. Look at Lizz Truss trying to push through that ridiculous tax cut, look at Euro austerity post GFC.
JIT is simply too profitable to abandon. Eventually companies will go back to using it as it helps them compete.
Finally I think outsourcing will likely become more diversified then anything else. India and SEA still have plenty of room for it and there is always Africa as well. The change in price between union and locally made textiles/clothing in US/AUS Vs global south production is huge. There are 279 million ppl in Indonesia with a GDP per capita of 5.7k Vs 25m in Australia with 59k GDP/pc, you don't think manufacturing will try and use the cheaper workforce?
So im a Peter Zeihan fanboy and he argues 10% inflation for the next decade as we all decouple. I think these are the factors pushing up inflation.
\-Basicly we are running out of working age adults in the west as is China. As people retire they do not put their money into risky ventures, this helps drive up cost of lending and in turn inflation.
\-That Viral clip of US senate commiti talking about how 50% of inflation is corporate profiteering(monopolies lack of competions ect)
\-Higher energy (oil) prices push everything up think transport for goods mining getting to work. Russias output should decrease due to the divestment of western oil companies.
Okay sure, so then I’ll present a case study.
The uk is reeling from Putin’s withholding of gas which is adding to their inflation however around 2% is attributed to brexit and all the inefficiencies brought with it.
So while the uk is rebuilding its supply chains do you think it is reasonable for them to get back to 2% inflation even if they raised rates and Putin’s war ended?
Point is, if we are wary of China and want to build our own semiconductors look at the money the US spends just to guarantee the private investment.
I will point out that I agree that the major causes are from the “answers I don’t like”, I just haven’t heard anyone talking about crumbling supply chains and I’m curious as to why.
i too feel that often, blame is misdirected. economies will go up and down with/ without wars. media reports of our global issues often remind me of this...

canned tuna is good. Get the little john west ones with the flavours when they are on half price sale. Pop some on bread, with cheese on top, into the oven to melt and crisp up....thats a treat right there.

You sure you can't see that one bro? I just copied it from commsex
It's good to see the Swedish government's report on updating their mining code proposing to classify graphite as a critical mineral along with incentives for local communities. Again, this won't effect the current mla but, if implemented, should take away a lot of the risk for niska.
Very encouraging for TLG. It gives the Municipalities the incentive to approve mines because they will benefit directly from tax revenues. The location of Talga's proposed mine is in the biggest municipality (by area) but has a relatively small population, so could significantly benefit residents financially. Soz reindeers.
As u/asxist said it makes expansion plans more likely to be approved.
I know 0 of TLG but something just occurred to me so I'll ask out of curiosity:
Since it's Sweden, are the reindeer issues in this case really Sámi issues? I mean, it is entirely a nature conservation issue or are there indigenous lifestyle\territory\sustainance\culture\politics issues at play?
Yes it’s a Sami issue. TLG proposed mine is in an area the Sami use for reindeer herding. It has a relatively small footprint, but it seems indigenous rights is a bigger hurdle than environmental.
While they Sami have acknowledged what the graphite will be used for, they’ve called it green colonialism 😬
One of their biggest issues would be a slippery slope argument. Approve this TLG mine with a smallish footprint and in 2024 they’ll be a permit for one 5X the size. And then same again a few years later. Talga propose expansion to be underground mining, but I can see why there would be concerns.
As much as I know, educate myself, do my research, spend time learning, reading reports etc
... why does it hurt so much still knowing that if I had just put all my current cash into WA1 a few days ago, I would have made enough to not worry about anything for a long time.
Sometimes I fucking hate this thing.

Have you tried countering the salary offer? Remember that recruiters are not your friend and don't have your best interests at heart
Recruiters get paid based on the salary anyway, so a higher salary would suit them

What makes you think we are disassembling supply chains with China?
Plenty of people talking about onshoring as a source of inflation. ESG is another one.
i too feel that often, blame is misdirected. economies will go up and down with/ without wars. media reports of our global issues often remind me of this... "Who knows why we were taught to Fear the Witches And not those that burned themOr those who stood by, watching"
Excellent quote, where’s it from? r/WitchesVsPatriarchy would love it
So like... anyone know what the next WA1 will be? Asking for a friend.
IVZ in two weeks
WA2?
[It ain’t much, but it’s honest work](https://imgur.com/a/OAZUWRP)
damn! Was in my purchase list yesterday yet didn’t commit as got distracted by some stupid gum nut at work. Those gains could’ve been mine!
Missed the top but a 35% gain is very tasty indeed.
canned tuna is dog food for the poor and dishevelled nine to fiver. god i hope i get a good run on the ASX one of these days and never have to pull back the tab on a fishy nightmare again.
Stuff a nice steak down your pants. Fuck the profiteering bourgeoisie .
on the way to woolies to buy four kilos of scotch fillet potatoes.
*It's all meeeeeeee*
You gotta get the good shit. Sirena > *
i do. still hits hard.
TBH, canned tuna is pretty eets.
Cat food. My old cat would puke when given cat tuna but could eat human tuna just fine.
canned tuna is good. Get the little john west ones with the flavours when they are on half price sale. Pop some on bread, with cheese on top, into the oven to melt and crisp up....thats a treat right there.
Sirena all the way, the rest is dogshit.
you do you brother, i just wish i had the fresh shit.
the fresh shit isn't what it's labelled as either....it's all catfish from Vietnam, cut differently and deliberately mis-labelled and sold as some other variety. Unless you are going out with a rod yourself - at which point it is free.... Safer to get the John West
queen vic markets sashimi grade. can't fuck with fish if you're eating it raw.
I've watched enough Current Affair to know it's all up for grabs.
At least I’m not Elon Musk. Dude just flushed 44 billion. That’s embarrassing.
Its embarrassing and also not. Id be pretty impressed if i could flush 44b and still go on just fine……
not all his money. Huge funding / investors.
Yep, I’d say it’s the banks and instos he talked into flushing their cash with him that are feeling embarrassed
it's never his money though, so 🤷
He’s got skin in the game https://www.reuters.com/markets/us/how-will-elon-musk-pay-twitter-2022-10-07/
Down 0.05% today. I think that calls for a riot.
It’s allright, I’m up 0.07% now. Pitchforks down.
LMG when Lambo? VML when Kia?
I'm bullish on LMG, but am surprised about todays price increase. Is there news that I missed, or is it a target of a pump 'n dump?
I guess we will find out soon enough
I’m starting to feel bullish about my MMG nearology play to WR1. In with $10k @ 50c
Never been hurt by nearology before ha? Im ex PUR and MAN. NOT doing that shit again 😂
Yeah change of plan: sold it for a tiny profit (after being down for the first month I owned it) and dumped $38k into YAL at close
Good lord you really are riding that coal train HARD arent you? Today coal saved my ass whilst lithium pummelled it. A balanced PF i guess 😂
FMG acting like a spec today
Just today?
Day 1 of me wondering why some members need to count the days
Do I regret not adding into BHP at the 36's, 37's? Oui, je le regrette.
That’s it HZR run up the slide and fall back down.
+2.13% ASX: +0.33% I'll take that.
Mine is -0.03. Boring day. I miss the day when it’s -4% when I woke up in the morning, fresh air
Love you Mark. Have a great day 😘
Thx mate, you too
Last couple months have been pretty rough on me with this roller coaster ride. Thinking about deleting all my apps and just not looking at anything until the new year. Wonder if the peace of mind would be worth the potential missed opportunities
Well, if you're not intending to sell or buy in the short term, the mental health break would be invaluable.
My lithium speccys won’t be blowin up til 2024 and the rest is just boomer ETFs with DRP turned on. Iv become somewhat addicted to buying stocks and feel like maybe I should just hoard cash for a bit
You’ve answered your own question
Anyone have thoughts on IR1. I’ve been told it’s going to pump in the near future but it’s been a rocky road since I got in.
Dafuq wr1 just getting know, no particular ann or results come through - jump 50%! Why do none of my dog explorers do that?
First, they need to be 1/9th the MC of peers at similar resources and exploration stages.
Day 2 of not being able to see QPMs latest announcement on commsec

Ah yeah, doesn't show up in my mobile app either. Weird. Definitely visible from the website though
It's good to see the Swedish government's report on updating their mining code proposing to classify graphite as a critical mineral along with incentives for local communities. Again, this won't effect the current mla but, if implemented, should take away a lot of the risk for niska.
Is this good news for TLG?
Very encouraging for TLG. It gives the Municipalities the incentive to approve mines because they will benefit directly from tax revenues. The location of Talga's proposed mine is in the biggest municipality (by area) but has a relatively small population, so could significantly benefit residents financially. Soz reindeers. As u/asxist said it makes expansion plans more likely to be approved.
I know 0 of TLG but something just occurred to me so I'll ask out of curiosity: Since it's Sweden, are the reindeer issues in this case really Sámi issues? I mean, it is entirely a nature conservation issue or are there indigenous lifestyle\territory\sustainance\culture\politics issues at play?
Yes it’s a Sami issue. TLG proposed mine is in an area the Sami use for reindeer herding. It has a relatively small footprint, but it seems indigenous rights is a bigger hurdle than environmental. While they Sami have acknowledged what the graphite will be used for, they’ve called it green colonialism 😬 One of their biggest issues would be a slippery slope argument. Approve this TLG mine with a smallish footprint and in 2024 they’ll be a permit for one 5X the size. And then same again a few years later. Talga propose expansion to be underground mining, but I can see why there would be concerns.
Ah, heck. What a pickle. Thanks.

Laugh every time I see @dinosaurman1 on twitter
I think? I’m only in AQI as a link to Sweden - not graphite but hoping it’s still positive for them
Is WR1 the new pump…
I'm just gonna do a search for W\*1 and find me a new rocket. edit: Found it WC1 🚀🚀🚀
Trading halt 😂😂
Maybe that’s the strategy
But they have numbers in their ticker! They MUST be dogs, right?
A11 has TWO numbers, and look at her go…🤯
Live data on ASX in a nice chart, trading view paid?
ESS looks set to re-test 50c this week
here for it! Go you go thang!
LKEtards we rich boiisssssssss
As much as I know, educate myself, do my research, spend time learning, reading reports etc ... why does it hurt so much still knowing that if I had just put all my current cash into WA1 a few days ago, I would have made enough to not worry about anything for a long time. Sometimes I fucking hate this thing.
Better luck reading a form guide and picking the right donkey. It’ll save you a ton of time too
Literally no way to have predicted this run, and it's a question of when, not if, it comes crashing down.
