Only got announced last night, so its hard to leak unexpected news lol

kangaroute

true. "unexpected news" is still sometimes many days in preparation, as bureaucrats shuffle paperwork, and Grant recipients are quite aware that there may be imminent news.

Calm_Lengths

That's true, the fact that timbo was there in person to receive the news means that the company must have had some inkling of being awarded the grant...

DEG PFS out today. She's a big girl alright. 1B+ in capex was always going to be the case. Trying to POX a 10Mtpa operation won't come cheap. Grade and recoveries still the main risks imo. POX plants are tricky beasts they will need to get every single % of recovery out of it and every single g/t out of their resource/reserve models. Not sure it will be as low cost operation as they suggest, but looks like it'll go bigly for a while over 500kozpa

ImAsquirrel77

Yep, interesting that a gold road upped their stakes. Wonder if they are a prime target for a decent takeover

There's a very short list of projects of that size globally, particularly in first world jurisdictions. Something of that quality is always in discussions for takeovers - as long as the price is right

Looking for more ethical investment suggestions on the ASX if anyone has any ideas? Don't want to be putting my money into mining or financial services or big pharma and from what I can gather that leaves pretty slim pickings.

staytha

Hard truth for you my guy, green tech = bullish for miners. Let me raise you this: why is mining unethical?

rhythm34

I see others have answered sufficiently regarding mining. WOA are making oat milk and planning to make plant protein from lupins, all with regenerative farming techniques

nohorncap

>planning to make plant protein from lupins yeah - that one does strike me as a crock of ESG shit. what you're not being told is that in order to make lupins palatable to humans, you're basically creating junk food due to the amount of processing needed. If they were to create something useful and tasty without a metric fuckton of processing, yeah, maybe. food + sharemarket = not the best combo IMHO.

rhythm34

Are you familiar with the process used? WOA use ultrasound to alter the molecular chemistry of the lupin protein flour. It's not too dissimilar how baking a loaf of bread alters the chemistry of the wheat protein. Energy is applied to alter the state. Sonication of food doesn't affect the nutritional properties, in this case it just alters the rheology. What part of it would you consider junk food? Food science is nothing to be scared of :)

nohorncap

when you say MORE… what do you have now? What is ethical to you? eg: twiggy says he’s ethical, which is pimped on nasdaq: https://www.nasdaq.com/articles/what-the-energy-transition-looks-like%3A-fortescue-metals-group I would say that twiggy is a mendacious fuck who is out for a dollar and gets that ESG is a complete crock of shit, and he’s fucking milking it as hard as he can. Tariq Fancy on that crock: https://medium.com/@sosofancy/the-secret-diary-of-a-sustainable-investor-part-1-70b6987fa139 (There's a great interview with him on the prof G podcast too). Fyi - Glencore are being busted for greenwashing: https://12ft.io/proxy?ref=&q=https://www.afr.com/companies/mining/green-groups-dob-in-glencore-for-greenwashing-20220907-p5bg35 Re: your hydrogen play, I went o/s with PLUG. Re: asx, you and u/agitated666 could be besties: https://www.reddit.com/user/Agitated666/submitted/ EGL, DEL are two I'd be looking into. EGL is a fave of Harley Grosser: podcast: https://www.livewiremarkets.com/wires/how-harley-grosser-turned-100k-into-800k-in-4-years DEL is a fave of AFR: https://12ft.io/proxy?q=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.afr.com%2Fcompanies%2Fenergy%2Fhow-green-gas-could-soothe-the-energy-crisis-20220628-p5ax32 Which has recently been featured on the tech zero podcast, which sounds like your thang: https://12ft.io/proxy?ref=&q=https://www.afr.com/podcast/tech-zero You say no mining, I say you want ethical, you don’t have a choice, and you might dig this review: https://www.theguardian.com/books/2022/jul/17/volt-rush-by-henry-sanderson-review-winners-losers-in-the-race-to-go-green Nothing incredibly useful, but fyi: https://12ft.io/proxy?q=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.afr.com%2Fpolicy%2Fenergy-and-climate%2Fwhy-this-green-energy-giant-loves-australia-20220906-p5bfqr There is no lack of miners to choose from. Here's a few of my holdings which may pass muster: A4N, AR1, COB, DRE, SPQ, E25 (careful, as it's on a downer), GAL, GL1, GLN, MNS, NMT, QGL, RNU. COB if you’re into ethics is absolutely why they started. It’s a casino because cobalt alternatives and no lack of competition though! Does that help?

nsjmas

We all identify as unethical

catch-10110

Maybe tell us what you consider to be “ethical”? Most here would not consider mining to be unethical. Coal mining maybe is unethical (unless you like using electricity in the eastern states), but otherwise mining is necessary for everything we do every day. It’s basically impossible to call mining “unethical” without being hypocritical.

Massive_Button9434

Can I ask you a question? Why not mining? There are plenty of miners aiming to do things ethically, environmentally friendly etc. We need to mine. That device you are using to read reddit?... it needs mining. That electric vehicle you want to might want to drive (vs petrol)... it needs mining.

AltruisticCurtains

Your AFR pre-market. It says we're winning. **ASX to rise, Wall St rebounds broadly, oil slumps** Australian shares are poised to rise, taking direction from New York. Techs rebounded strongly, energy stocks fell as the price of oil tumbled below $US90 a barrel. ASX futures were up 35 points or 0.52 per cent to 6758 near 6.45am AEST. On Wall St: Dow +1.4% S&P +1.8% Nasdaq +2.1% In New York: BHP -1.7% Rio -1% Atlassian +2.5% Tesla +3.4% Apple +0.9% Amazon +2.7% Netflix +4.8% The local currency was 0.5 per cent higher; the Bloomberg dollar spot index was 0.4 per cent lower. On bitstamp.net, bitcoin was 1.8 per cent higher to $US19,212 at 6.25am AEST. The yield on the US 10-year note fell 8 basis points to 3.27 per cent at 4.09pm in New York. Oil fell below levels seen prior to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as downbeat Chinese trade data fed investor worries about recession risks. The European Central Bank is expected to raise interest rates sharply when it meets on Thursday. A US Federal Reserve meeting follows on September 21. The Bank of Canada overnight lifted interest rates to their highest level in 14 years, as expected, and signalled its most aggressive tightening campaign in decades was not yet done as it battles to tame inflation. The central bank, in a regular rate decision, increased its policy rate to 3.25 per cent from 2.50 per cent, matching analyst forecasts and hitting a level not seen since April 2008. Rates are now above the BoC’s neutral range, meaning that for the first time in about two decades monetary policy is likely to restrict growth. Workers at BHP’s sprawling Escondida copper mine located in northern Chile on Wednesday (Thursday AEST) threatened to go on strike over what they described as safety concerns. **Today's agenda** Local: Trade balance July at 11.30am AEST; Speech by by Philip Lowe, RBA governor, to Anika Foundation – Inflation and the Monetary Policy Framework – Sydney at 1.05pm AEST Overseas data: Japan final second quarter GDP, July current account; European Central Bank policy decision at 10.15pm AEST; US July consumer credit **Market highlights** ASX futures up 35 points or 0.52 per cent to 6758 near 6.45am AEST AUD +0.5% to 67.68 US cents Bitcoin +1.8% to $US19,212 at 6.25am AEST On Wall St: Dow +1.4% S&P +1.8% Nasdaq +2.1% In New York: BHP -1.7% Rio -1% Atlassian +2.5% Tesla +3.4% Apple +0.9% Amazon +2.7% Netflix +4.8% Stoxx 50 +0.1% FTSE -0.9% CAC +0.02% DAX +0.4% Spot gold +0.8% to $US1715.02/oz at 2.24pm New York time Brent crude -4.9% to $US88.33 a barrel Iron ore -0.5% to $US96.90 a tonne 10-year yield: US 3.27% Australia 3.70% Germany 1.57% US prices as of 4.44pm in New York **United States** Apple introduced a range of new iPhone 14 models capable of sending a call for help via satellite during an emergency, as well as crash-detection ability and an adventure-focused Ultra Watch. The iPhone 14 models will test Apple’s ability to wring dollars from its relatively affluent customer base, which has kept spending in the face of rising inflation but is not immune to a weakening economy. The iPhone 14 will start at $US799 and the iPhone Plus at $US899 and both will be available for pre-order starting September 9. Elon Musk can use a whistleblower’s claims in his legal case against Twitter, but the billionaire cannot delay the trial over his attempt to walk away from his deal for the company, a judge ruled. **Europe** Europe’s STOXX 600 index fell on Wednesday led by declines in commodity stocks after lacklustre trade data from China added to worries about a global economic slowdown, although utility stocks jumped on a report of possible regulatory change. Miners exposed to China lost 2.3 per cent, while the European oil & gas index dropped 3.1 per cent tracking a fall in metal and crude prices. Both sector indexes led declines in the benchmark STOXX 600 index, which ended 0.6 per cent lower after notching marginal gains in the previous session. Shares in Ubisoft tumbled 17.2 per cent to the bottom of the STOXX 600, after it announced a deal that will see China’s Tencent Holdings raise its stake in the company, a move seen as a signal that a full sale of the French game maker is now very unlikely. H&M slipped 2.3 per cent after JP Morgan downgraded the Swedish fashion retailer’s stock to “underweight” from “neutral”. **Commodities** Oil benchmarks tumbled to their lowest in more than six months as demand concerns emanating from China prompted a wave of selling that turned into a frenzy as prices breached technical warning levels. Brent fell below $US90 a barrel, its lowest since February. Traders lamented the market picture was darkening as oil formed what’s referred to as a “death cross” - a bearish technical signal where US oil’s 50-day moving average falls below its 200-day MA- for the first time since 2020. “Elevated volatility is the story here,” said Rebecca Babin, a senior energy trader at CIBC Private Wealth Management. “There is no way to have conviction and want to place bets when the market trades in huge ranges with limited liquidity. The risk reward is just not there.”

Looking at NIC. Has taken a real beating. Thinking of getting in mid 0.80c but unsure if this limbo party is at an end. I need a reading from the one that gets the tingles. 🤰🏾

Razorzej

I'm bag holding NIC, and already doubled down, so personally I'm watching very closely to see if it breaks through support above 82.5c. If so it's in real trouble. I'd like to average down more, but don't want to throw good money after bad. The overall price seems to be linked to general economic sentiment at the moment.

raindog_

NIC is an interesting one. It's has good fundamentals, but i feel as though it's been marked as fuck. As a processor, higher input costs have fucked it a little, but it's held reasonably strong (fundamentals wise). It does appear undervalued. But with that said, I can't read the tea-leaves to tell you there's a rocket coming. I don't think there's any short term rocket coming anyway. It's a cheap price to get in, and I've been tempted to average down.. but I have so little confidence anymore so don't listen to me. You might be better off taking a look at a purer play like NC1.

Webpage9

fanks homie, appreciate your thoughts. I did like reading that they have solar panels for some of their energy use which should help in keeping costs down with high coal prices and by product emissions. they are also a relatively a low cost producer. much to mull. 🤰🏾

1whiteshark

NIC has been dropping all year. It’s tanking now because I got in at 98 cents.

Educational_Peanut17

Why do people love VML so much here?

kangaroute

well, firstly it is producing rare earths and to get a supplier outside china is a plus. it is in Canadia, so its location benefits RE users in the US and Canada. its close to transport. it has nice views- as mentioned. oh, and DoomKoon told us. and yes, we are all bag holders- but we stand strong in the belief that VML will oneday turn our investment green

InterestingShow1112

WowVeryJosh

Today's LRS announcement confirmed what I knew about 3-4 weeks ago at their last update. Their pegmatite system appears to be converging, and potentially thickening, to the east into the tenement which they don't own. Still awaiting the deeper Colina West results to see if those pegmatites converge potentially into the upper Colina pegmatites... you guessed it...in the tenement to the east which they do not own. And the HC Brains Trust have finally clued onto that too. Still won't be a bad resource however the open-pit is going to be constrained by the tenement edge so they potentially won't even be able to mine down into the resource fully. That eastern tenement is the game-changer for LRS, but now the vendors likely know what they are sitting on. And the more LRS drills, the more expensive that tenement becomes.

[deleted]

[удалено]

WowVeryJosh

The vendor could just choose not to sell it too. That's an option

Crumpy88

Can't they just dig down vertically from the land they own then horizontally into the good stuff which isn't theirs?

jesustityfkingchrist

Haha was my first thought too

kangaroute

yeah, like in african gold mines

Zera222

whats the likelihood of them purchasing the rights of the eastern tenement?

WowVeryJosh

Who knows. Not sure who the vendor is. But after the first results they went after the southern tenement. It would be silly to not have considered the east and I don't think Gale is that stupid to not have

Imthewifesboyfriend

The Hot Copper folk have been talking about that Eastern tenement since the early days of the discovery... 5 months, give or take. The potential for a big boy is well and truly there. All Hail Chris Gale.

cant_right_good

Yea I guess Rio have the advantage of a bit more operating experience in WA maybe. More familiarity with permitting etc (cough, cough). The discovery came out of nowhere aye. McDermott is the main contractor on Woodside's $16B Scarborough development, so I'm pretty impressed LKE managed to pick up Mcdermott's 2021 ex-CEO.

ewanelaborate

Hard to tell what the sentiment is honestly. That forums always been unreadable. But a quick glance tells me there's some pumped up optimism and controversy about a draft watermark so I don't think anyone gives a shit. Rather than looking into the mcdermot history it might be better looking to the fund Dixon is associated with which from a quick glance appears to be some sort of venture capitalist group in the greenwashing energy movement. So that might be a positive for anyone still holding and hoping.
