Do you think it's easier to reach retirement long/ short term investing or day trading? Curious at the subs thoughts
I suspect you know the answer to this, but the vast majority of day traders fail to consistently beat the market and professionals aren't much better. Realistically most people are better off with a slowly steady consistent purchase of a board indexed ETF live VAS/VGS/VTS (sacrilege!).
But punting on high risk speculative stocks just hits a bit differently. I treat part of it as a hobby I enjoy doing "research" and the community aspect here is a nice middle ground between Ausfinace and wallstreetbets.
Ben Felix he has two good videos on both day traders and super star hedge fund managers (cough cathie woods)
[Ben Felix on day trading](https://youtu.be/qhHOmZVAqBE)
[Ben Felix on Hedge fund managers](https://youtu.be/p6HrepdLSu4)
depends on the person. no straight answer.
I think it's whichever works best for the individual. Nick Fabrio on Twitter, for instance, makes fukn bank cause he's highly skilled at day trading. Whereas Warren Buffett buys and hodls quality stocks for years and he's probably a millionaire by now, even though he chose not to buy tech stocks in the 90's.
Exactly, but as you and I know re: Nick, full time job + some.
I do love a good passive index, but active trading = v.shiny, just paranoid about fucking up bigtime.
Yeah true, to me it's just easier for non experts to achieve it through long term investing because it's what I understand easier and people like Jim Simons who have made billions from day trading have said they profited from retail traders, which implies they were the big losers
Day trading of course. Oh and by retirement I assume you mean living out the back of maccas in a cardboard box next to the dumpster
Short or day trading is easier, of course you need a 50x bagger to do so...
Reasoning for why? I disagree, but most of the sub I figured would have that opinion, curious to why?
Ease in my mind does not equal likelihood. Investing for years diligently is really tough. Hitting the jackpot by hitting buy randomly a few times when the fomo takes over? 👨🍳 💋
Up 3.25%, which is nice.
And... I expect to lose it tomorrow, because the US is surely due for a red day (and of course, we'll follow).
And yes, this is the way.

From plus nine something to minus 1.6. What a cunt.
That’s what she said
Way to shit the bed this arvo ASX. 7% swing for me - from 3% up, to 4% down.
I feel your pain. Same here
Trading is not an intellectual pursuit where you find the answers and it’s puzzle solved. It’s a performance activity, akin to sport, music or drama where deep skills are acquired, developed and learned over time and where the battle is both external and with oneself.
So just like pulling your cock then.
I think you will find that is an intellectual pursuit !
It's a drama where deep skills are involved.
Sounds like I’ll be needing more electrolytes.
So … you’re saying it’s an intellectual pursuit
trader is an anagram of retard so yes i agree. It is a deep skill performance activity performed by retards.
autist move of the day:
bought DRE at 0.064, and somehow managed a stop loss sell at .063, now at .068.
\*takes a bow\*
I mean if you bought at ask 0.064 then you sell at bid 0.063, that’s like some reverse arbitrage.
Yeah stops were pretty tight but he coulda been using yesterday's low as a support level.
Just had 6 daily candles in a row where the low of the day was equal to or higher than the previous candle- that's a type of trend. Maybe a bit weak, but it would have worked if he did it last week.
I had a trailing stop loss, and have learnt that 1mill is too low a trigger - obviously needs to be higher. i have much to learn :)
Oversold on the daily chart so a stop was a good call imo. Looks like hourly support would have been better in hindsight
?? can you explain this one? what do you mean by hourly support?
noob here, obvs.
It's not very clear, but [this is an hourly uptrend](https://www.tradingview.com/x/FwNw7rLY/)
It's the 1hr chart where each candle is one hour of price action, and it's making higher-lows and higher-highs. I consider the last higher-low to be at the blue horizontal line, 0.057. A higher-low is called support.
If price breaks below support, it could turn into a downtrend. Bulls lose money in a downtrend.
It's a bit clearer on JIN. [Here's the hourly chart.](https://www.tradingview.com/x/5whtzE2Q/) Hourly uptrend, support (higher-low) is at 14.20
[Daily chart](https://www.tradingview.com/x/dHoH7lc1/) shows the start of a daily uptrend, support at 13.07
THE TREND IS YOUR FRIEND
thankyou, but heres the thing:
i am but a noob autist, and simply wanted to buy at .64 because my current holding is .66 and wanted lower to average out and top up. Mission accomplished!
my mistake? with that stop loss, I just needed to set the trigger volume higher - I thought 1 mill would be enough, but simply guessed \*without\* looking.
Live and learn.
I get what the uptrend/trends/patterns is \*meant\* to look like, however as a newly diagnosed legit autist, its fascinating to watch stake do its thing of creating a chart, because what comes out smooth as an uptrend sure as shit isnt like that in realtime.
Agreed that the trend is yr frend - but fucking hell - what I \*think\* is going to happen most likely won't...
Thankyou so much for the explanation and screenshots - above and beyond - super kind.
fuck you are retarded man
killing is wrong mmkay?
From up 7.02% at 10.30 to down 0.9% at 4.22 pm. Fuck you Sya
Strong morning starts the past 2 red days for SYA honestly so hard to call it or to consider selling off a bit and buying back in the arvo. Way too risky, then it randomly has a +10 / +20% kinda day every so often.
Closing my eyes and holding. gl
So many cunts must do shit like buy it at 19.5c , sell at 20c the next morning, then buy back in afternoon close at 19.5c and on it goes. Might start doing that myself actually.
Just watch - the morning/arvo we try this SYA has its strongest gain yet 🥲
RNpoo back to being a dog.
Despite a promising start my PF just tread water all day. AGN was doing well until some fucko decided to drop a wall to make some pip profits
Bought more IXR. Feel like the october DFS runup has to be starting soon
Sad it finished a pip down today...
Same but will be a blip in the long run. Spent like 2 hours on hotcopper today so i’m fully torqued this arvo.
Yeah I've no doubt it'll improve and hit new ATHs
That really pissed me off TBH! 4.6 - 4.7 pretty much all day
Alot of supply under 5c just needs to soak and get past it. Time is ticking down though.
Looking forward to pushing back past 5c
Dog market ASX. ASX completely putting aside the US strong performance, focus entirely on the US futures in the middle of the night on a Sunday, soon as ASX closes for trade US futures begin turning higher.
Previous US Sesh Green + Red Futures = Red ASX
Previous US Sesh Red + Green Futures = Red ASX
Previous US Sesh Green + Green Futures = Red ASX
And then when ASX does occasionally go green, its at about a 20:1 ratio Dow points green equivalent to an ASX point green.
Almost as if capital is flowing into the US markets….
After the proposed beer tax increase, I may need to consider taking up water Mon to Fri. 😖
Any news on the vodka/gin front?
guess it’s too late for bottl’o run 🤣
INR vid for the 3 of us in it.
NO TESLA OFFTAKE!!!??!?
sold $50k @ 57c. daily RSI looking toppy so i think there will be an opportunity to buy back in later at a lower level
Highly doubt tesla is interested in INR cause of its mine make-up. Ford and Toyota will do.
Only 3 of us? No wonder im not making any coin yet!
Can ABB plz stop releasing quarterly reports thank you
PLS: wtf? 1000 after market buyers 2.9 to 3.0, market closed at 2.8… ????
The price is determined during the closing auction by overlapping the buyers and sellers and matching them off against each other. If you had looked on the sell side you would've seen the sellers putting in much lower prices to make sure their shares sold. The higher bids and lower asks are matched to give 2.8
Another day, another bleeding uranium portfolio, can someone send me the bear thesis for this shit?
Some bear thoughts (I'm neutral on uranium):
Public sentiment is poor compared to other options such as solar, wind, and hydro which makes it a tougher selling point for politicians in a green policy.
New builds are extremely expensive and takes a very long time to complete. Levelised capital cost on new plants can be as high as $198/MW compared to $143/MW for coal and $159/MW for gas (these are all the upper band costs).
The amount of uranium required is pretty low. About 27 tonnes is required per year for 1000MW. Comparatively, to get the same amount from coal requires 2.5 million tonnes. Begs the question how much market demand is there for uranium given the required quantities are so low? Hence how feasible will it be for your speccy to go into production and make some mullah?
For a bull thesis go visit Mutated's posts. Or he may tear apart my points above with some cold haaarrrrd facts 🤙
Bear thesis: my opinions only, throwing it out there to see what sticks
Public sentiment/perception (about nuclear disaster, nuclear waste) feeding into weak political will.
Until people are dying en masse from lack of electricity or unaffordable electricity don't expect any major change.
Last rally was driven by the same shit that sent all our non revenue speccies to the moon plus ONE major fund buyer.
No long term structural drivers for uranium demand compared to renewables + traditional baseload
Uranium = capital intensive (bearish)
Uranium = supply issues for energy security (bullish)
Bears vs Bulls = who will win?
The PRE-CSPA fluctuations are fuckn wild
Ausfinance was so offended by my posting the Atlantic article whose title compared ETFs like vanguard to Marxism, that **the post was removed by the moderators** of Ausfinance: [https://www.reddit.com/r/AusFinance/comments/wcl24e/could\_index\_funds\_be\_worse\_than\_marxism/](https://www.reddit.com/r/AusFinance/comments/wcl24e/could_index_funds_be_worse_than_marxism/)
Did you send them a message and ask for a specific reason as to why?
Not yet :)
You can ask them to clarify. We have dealt with the r/AusFinance mods a few times behind the scenes, generally they come across as fairly reasonable.
I've flicked on a polite enquiry.
damn. The one discussion that \*could\* be really worthwhile having. Tempted to invest in blackrock, because they not only create etfs, but the tech (aladdin) that what? 90% of shares is bought with?
There was some quality discussion about the article on this sub.
Ausfinance didn't demonstrate the same ability to engage with the material, though the occasional poster did give a thank you for mixing up the property posts.
Fight, fight, fight!
I hear communal living is a good antidote to impossible property prices.
Might just go on the pokies instead what’s the difference
Better chance of actually winning something here.
Why play pokies anyway? Horses and Dog betting are far more entertaining.
Just bet on the favourites to take a place(TAB Coward gains are still gains dammit! I've NEVER left with less money than when I went in unless I bought coffee a drink or dinner with it). Plus you don't have much time before the Woke Animal Cruelty wowsers try destroy the fun like they destroyed going to the damn cool as fuck Circus and ruined kids childhoods.
Kinda hate UFC, but if it floats your boat go ahead and enjoy it.
AFL has become too corporate as fuck. No more halftime brawls and dirty tricks made the game boring AF even with the "high speed" rule changes. Still GO PIES!
Well green candles on my Lithium. Gonna wait for the next red day. No buying today....but dam I'm getting the sweats and shaking.
I think you might have covid.
Nah the government said I won't ever get covid ever if I take the vaccine and the 40+ boosters this year. I'm safe.
I Have Lost
Language warning on this one, but it it may be relevant...
Not all bad. At least you can stop trying now
its not all bad. it could b worse. imagine if you had accidently bumped a fire alarm and had 11 floors evacuated due to your clutzies.
I once knocked off a fire sprinkler valve with my roof rack in north sydney.
Whole building got evacuated.
Fucking gold it was.
That's unrealistic. Nobody could be that awkward
Yeah. 10 floors I'd believe, but 11??
true. silly me
Hey u/SunkDestroyer, you don't happen to work in the same building as IHL's office do you?
all those fuckers are running for the fire exits lately...
I’m supporting the local economy.
- set off fire alarm.
- people ignore evacuation go to spot and head straight for the coffee shops
- win / win?
are the window ledges crowded?
Some fuckwits down the street have set a fire alarm off and there all just standing on the lawn playing hacky sack
No prizes for guessing how they set the alarm off
I'm imagining it was with their penis.
I think you'll find it was u/SunkDestroyer, that user seems to be causing mischief all over the place today...
AKE with its $7b MC just cruising up 5% like it's a speccy.
bonkers, right? I’m just… where’s the announcement 📣? trading halt? what’s going on?
Looking at you too PLS… (damn! wish I’d sold less… next rug pull…)
With avocado prices rock bottom and the housing market in freefall, everybody should be owning a house about now.
Still costs you $18 to smash that shit up and put it on a piece of sourdough
Everyone should be sustaining themselves with guacamole right now.
Why the fuck does it smell like smoke in here?
Fire alarm next door went off, all these idiots standing out on the street blocking traffic and i cant work with all this racket
I hope those pesky kids get off your front lawn soon grandpa.
Did u/SunkDestroyer hit the fire alarm next door to you?
Possibly in the same building where u/WowVeryJosh works?
Some fucking idiot just set the fire alarm off in our building and we had to evacuate
Prob some boomer cunt too busy on his phone posting on HotCopper under the guise of one, Dugsab
Hope your day is going better than mine… just bumped an emergency fire button (glass didn’t break) with some cable tray and it set off the whole buildings fire alarm.. 11 floors evacuated 😣
LKE going down to what it opened at. Time to throw 10k at it and pray it goes up 10% in the morning?
Can't go tits up!
Got 10k units… $1 tomorrow? 🙏
I got 5k units... gonna drink their brine if it doesn't
How you doing mate
All good. It's lower volume and its charting not too badly. You get a green day tomorrow you will be back in profit.
My buy in was 0.845 so not too concerned.
I bought in at .830, sold at .810 and then bought again at .80. Am I retarded?
Well you re bought at the daily support level but fuck me. Why sell if you were just going to rebuy? and sell at 2 pips down? Haha, I did that shit when I started out.
The 5 and 15min charts which are bit longer than the 1min chart have it turning around. The current direction overall has it still on a downwards trend.
Its the volume I like playing with. Give it at least another day. Should be able to get mid to high 8's if it plays nice tomorrow
I was trying to t+2 and got scared that it would drop below .80 haha I’m an idiot
ah. Didn't know it was a t+2. Well its going back up. nice 500k buy at 0.805 and 0.81. should be good for a go tomorrow
Anyone bullish on Woodside / LNG?
It’s price looks quite stable, don’t know point buying it now, expecting it to go 40?
Energy broadly yes. Haven’t looked into WPL
They renamed their name and ticker to WDS now
LKE back on track to $1. ESS above 50 day EMA now
My first -50% bag yay. Go IHL you good thing.
IHL makes me pretend I'm a long term investor and not a low IQ gambler
90% of my trading worries are IHL related
IHL: I Hate Life
Into Holding Luggage
I have lost
Suck my dick Steve Promnitz
… i dont think he left of his own choice 🤷🏼♂️
Anyone getting around VMT? Long term play maybe
Scooter with 11 karma pumping VMT.....
Yes I’m new here, I get it! Don’t need everyone reminding me every time I comment
HZR looking somewhat tasty at these prices
ahh my favorite alert for a stonk....
*''new 52 week low''...*
Every damn week right?
Guess it might be time to buy the dip again
If you're into that type of thing. I sold a lot at 69c because I thought it had run way too hard, so the debate is always there to re-load.
That definitely is true, i feel like at current levels, it is definitely an interesting risk/reward profile.
I feel as though the pipeline is quite strong with results to come and plenty of cash in hand, it's now a matter of seeing if others see the same
Long term I'm a massive fan. I still have a shit load of IHL's shares for that reason. But it was time to take profit a few months ago.
Short term, I can't see the appeal. All the information is good but its all known already and the result is a relentless drive down in price. I don't see what's going to change in the short term to change sentiment.
But then again, I am looking at it rationally so fuck knows...
Short term I'd have to agree with you, sentiment is down the toilet so will need something left of field or a really unexpected improvement in results to warrant a nice turn around
That said, I'm just a 🤡 who has been buying bag after bag
Anyone still bullish on IHL? Quite a dramatic slide in the past few months (I don’t hold, just curious)
Imagine selling after the nasdaq launch
Long term, yeah for sure. It's been absolutely massacred the last few months though...
For a speccie biotech, they have de-risked a lot the last year or so, have a good amount of $$ in the bank and are ticking boxes progress wise. They ran up way too hard and the thrashing has been equally hard the other way...
Would you buy more at the current price? (assuming you had the funds to do so)
Yeah do it. Buy more. Start an onlyfans. Buy more. You only need one kidney - sell it. Buy more. Take advice from internet strangers. Buy more. Wave to ASIC. Buy more. This is not financial advice. Buy more.
Not touching that one chief, sorry..
It's my biggest holding
My bags say yes
Wow that MAY announcement. Domino's is back on the menu!
I can't keep up, is dominoes the new tendies or new ramen?
Yeh wtf Dominos is very vague
loving the savagery. michael frazis down 71.2% for FY22 after being up 110% in FY21 for a track record of -10%p.a. since july 2018 (inception).
come on michael we know you're in here, coz you're just an average retard but with a lot more money.
“He has now called 18 of the last two equities rallies.”
He invests in "+100% revenue growth pa, not profit making" companies like Carvana, SEA, Afterpay, and heaps of Chinese shit.
That shit only works in a 0% rate environment.
>Sydney-based fund manager Michael Frazis says he's a value investor, but not in the conventional sense. The margin of safety, 50¢ in the dollar, Warren Buffett-way of value investing isn't his style
TPG's goodwill is larger than the market cap of 60th biggest company in All-Ordinaries
LTR actually dragged my pf into the green this morning
It's been on the slide all day, but seems to have bottomed out.
Weird ass day
What's wrong with your ass mate?
the Great BNPL Pump (and dump) of the last couple of weeks has to be one of the weirdest market actions I've seen in ages
for pretty much every company to pump in the sector, on no real positive news other than the macro of 'rates might cap out lower than the max forecast', and for it to receive no real analysis in the finance media either is just strange
Why do you think it's weird? The data suggests alot of it is retail day traders? To me it's very similar to the pump and dumps happening all last year with things like NZS
MAY = lambo ?
How many units of MAY you hold?
Couple of 100,000
Bit of volume on RLT today. People expecting the plant to be commissioned shortly? First we get the gas, then we get the money then we get the power
Curious to hear the opinions of those more in the know - GLN's recent spodumene discovery announcement? Good news but actually significant?
Greenbushes (IGO) is a bit of an outlier in terms of what's going on in the typical pegmatite geology. Their spodumene ore is really fine - to the point where rocks that look like theyre filled with trash silicate material actually grade at 3-4% Li2O, so a good chunk of their deposit is actually Lithium rich aplite. Quite different to an actual pegmatite.
The announcement doesn't have much to it other than surface mapping identified pegmatites. Bit of a wait and watch operation
I figured as such about it being a bit of a non-news. Their greenbushes project is just nearology fingers-crossed. Thanks for explaining further :)
Same as any other company really. Just slow progress until they can build up an information bank to define drill targets with the highest chances of success.
Yeah I'm keen to hear thoughts too...
Looking at you wowowveryjosh and jswift...
I have always thought GLN have been a bit undervalued and greenbushes a bit of a smokey... Really hoping they find something of substance
Regarding the Greenbushes exploration, that's a fair way out of my expertise. But the market knows they won't get any significant exploration news from there during 2022, unfortunately.
I think that probably summarises GLN's problems: barring a takeover, there's no significant news due until December. That's the DFS, and even it'll be priced in to a certain extent.
Not enough buzz. The Hombre Muerto West PEA was completed in Dec 2020, yet DFS only commenced in June 2021. Why?
Construction has now been shifted back further to Q4 2023, and they've only just started producing an environmental impact statement.
The company's drilling for a bigger resource which they can't utilise.
Up to this point, they've seemed more interested in placing themselves in the shop window than moving the project forward speedily.
IMO, at the very least, they could release a fluff announcement about pursuing DLE at Candelas, which would remove the need for ponds, and advertise 25 years at 25ktpa. The Candelas resource supports that. Just inform the market that they're working with a few options and will select a partner in due course to improve their collective output from both projects to 45ktpa.
It's certainly looking like space/infrastructure is a problem they need to solve, because Ganfeng went straight past them to seize Lithea Inc (eventual 50ktpa) for nearly $1.4bill.
At AU$360m MC, it's definitely cheap compared to peers, but the opportunity cost could stretch out. Functionally, they have the best brine of any ASX listed company—even better than LPI.
