Rioli's race: 'Eight weeks of pre-season' in bid for shock finals return

ShibbyUp

Not really a shock, he's following the same timelines as he was planning to when they finalised the ASADA hearings.

Shhhhh It’s a SHOCK RETURN!! ^Taking ^eight ^weeks ^^that ^^we’ve ^^known ^^about ^^^for ^^^several ^^^more ^^^months…

TastyPhilosopher6433

It would be a bit of a shock to play him in the finals after 2 years of 0 afl. Not to mention unfair to all the players who didn't fuck up.

omaca

Depends on need. If there are injuries or poor form, and he has been tearing it up in training or his introductory WAFL match, then fine. But agree it would kinda suck to be dropped for no reason other than to just make room for him. I don't think the Eagles work that way though, so I'm pretty confident that ***IF*** it happens, it will be for a justifiable reason.

ShibbyUp

Given this exact scenario has been talked about since the ASADA ruling in March, I am the opposite of shocked.

notblair

What's the point in having him on the list then if you can't play him because it's unfair to the other players? What if the other players have been underperforming and he's been playing well in training?

WAVIC_136

Would also hope he's treated at least the latter part of the time out as pre-season

Imagine him showing up as injury sub...hm

fanfpkd

I agree. I’d love him to play but it’d be pretty stiff for another player who’s going well to be dropped for him. Looking forward to seeing him in full form 2022

DncCmmndr

100%. If there's an injury, or someone really out of form maybe give him a shot this year. But either way, pumped to see him in 2022

legoland6000

Yeah, and the Eagles have a pretty set forwards hierarchy as is. Even at full fitness and with matches under the belt, Willie isn't better than JK, Darling, Allen, Ryan, Cripps. Then with the remaining spots for the other small, he's not getting in ahead of Petch, Jones, Ah Chee, and probably Langdon without match fitness, and Waterman or Williams would probably be preffered over him and they'd opt for an extra tall. You really would need him to be tearing it up, and some major injuries to the smalls.

Yvugvygichuv

I feel like I'm in the minority here but Willie immediately goes into the team ahead of Petch, Jones, Ah Chee, Langdon and Waterman. Williams wont be near it come finals time. None of these smalls have cemented a spot in the starting side this season with minimal pressure considering the injuries, if Willie's available he goes in for me. Bloke only needs half a match to have an impact.

joeban1

Mostly agreed. Petch and Jones have had a decent season though. If they are down on form coming into finals and Willie is tearing it up in the WAFL/training i'd like to see him come in for them. Will ultimately come down to how well Willie is looking. 2 years is a long time to miss and he may not be as good as he was previously.

Yvugvygichuv

Yeah agreed on Petch/Jones being solid, but I’m not sure they’ve done enough to lock in a spot when at full strength. I’m hoping Willie gets a game in r23, maybe as the sub and shows enough to warrant selection in finals.

nuffjah

Agree. Match fitness is important, but even an underdone Willie is invaluable. He knows how to play, and has the X Factor and IQ the side needs.

BoardRecord

>Yeah, and the Eagles have a pretty set forwards hierarchy as is. Even at full fitness and with matches under the belt, Willie isn't better than JK, Darling, Allen, Ryan, Cripps. Cripps has been fairly poor this season, but you're right in saying none of them will be dropped. >Then with the remaining spots for the other small, he's not getting in ahead of Petch, Jones, Ah Chee, and probably Langdon without match fitness, But I'd take Willie over any of these guys in a heartbeat even with 2 years outta the game.

ForsakenPriority3767

If he's match fit and in form from the wafl, he plays. Any talk of anything else, is borderline racist. No such talk on doped Essendon players.

MrPenguinK

Eh?

How do you manage to write the dumbest shit in every thread?

Would it suprise you to learn he thinks that Bill Gates made covid and the FBI are tracking him due to his "extraordinary knowledge base."

justlet-mebrowse

Ahhhh, so he's trying to throw them off his trail by writing nonsense.
