Who's still on the table? Updated free agents list revealed

Who's still on the table? Updated free agents list revealed

As UFA, Mabior could be a popular lad at the end of the season if he keeps on going the way he has been the last couple of weeks.

Mother_Humor_5627

I would be shocked if Richmond can keep all its big men this off season. As much as I love Chol, Nank and Soldo they’re all too good to be at the same club. Nank is only 26 and is untouchable 3x premiership ruckman. Soldo is coming off a year of injury, doesn’t make sense to trade him now. CCJ is threatening to cement his spot in the side as a forward/ second ruck. Chol could move this off season, if I were up at GC I’d go hard for him, being a Queensland boy.

MF_Ocean

Had no idea Nank is only 26.

DiscoMegatron

I’ll be surprised if all stay after resigning Jack. I thought he would hang them up and CCJ would play forward plus ruck duo of either Nank/Soldo/Chol.

MonotoneRamos

Need to sign up Zach obviously, and then we should offer Snelling a 2 year deal, give Hooker another year and I'm 50/50 on Ambrose getting another year as he was great in 2019 but with him being played as a forward idk if there's a spot for him going forward

OldMegabattimus

Ambrose is definitely getting cut. It's telling that his only game this year has been as the sub.

fnaah

I love chook, but would honestly be surprised if he plays on after this season

MonotoneRamos

He's said he wants to play on for another season, he's done decently as our full forward this year and we've got no one in the two's pressuring him for his spot at the moment

ZeVenomousViper

I’m confident that we’ve shown Zerrett enough to convince him to stay, so as long as we’ve got enough money in the bank to throw at him this deal should be done in the next week or two 🤞🤞

jackplaysdrums

We just shedded Daniher, Saad, and Fantasia’s contracts. Zaharakis, Hooker, Hurley will all be gone in the next two years. We’rs super cashed up.

UBeleeDis

Wait so has Cripps signed or not. They said like a month ago that he had signed or whatever and it’s confusing. Also isnt Cerra meant to be here?

Kim_jong-fun

Apparently cripps has agreed to an in principle deal but nothing official yet. Cerra hasn't played long enough for free agency - he has to be traded or nominate for the draft if he wants to leave

Maximumlnsanity

Cerra's just out of contract, he's not a free agent

DENTAL_PLAN__

Surprising that Luke Parker is unrestricted but Hewett is restricted. Maybe because his deal was front-ended?

4nyonbthhytnhklnr

Definitely just a deal thing, it probably explains the reports that Sydney were dangling Hewett more trade at the end of last year. They likely were looking to get a lot of cap space for Hickey and maybe another. Edit: Didn't realize Parker had played 10 years, so he's automatically UFA

dazedjosh

I'm guessing we heavily front ended his contract when we extended him, that way he still got paid a good amount over the length of the contract, but we still had cap space to fit in Buddy's final years. As a result, the final year of his contract fell out of the top 25%. He's loudly laughed off reports of a move in the past, so we probably backed ourselves in to retain him.

4nyonbthhytnhklnr

I've realized that it's actually because this is his 10th year. Means he'll always be an unrestricted free agent from now on.

dazedjosh

As 4nyon has cleared something up in this chain, I've edited this comment to have the correct information and avoid confusion. With sauce. https://www.aflplayers.com.au/resources/afl-free-agency-explained The condition that a player must have come out of contract after eight years to then qualify for Unrestricted Free Agency at 10 years has been removed (irrespective of when a player had signed his previous contract, all ten-year players are Unrestricted Free Agents);

4nyonbthhytnhklnr

Didn't they remove all that in 2019? I was under the impression that from then-on, 10 years of service at a club automatically qualified you no matter when contracts were signed.

dazedjosh

In that case I'd be happy to remove that comment if you can find that source, but I couldn't find it myself.

4nyonbthhytnhklnr

https://www.aflplayers.com.au/resources/afl-free-agency-explained Is more or less what I've gone off for the last year or so. Don't know if it cancels out what you've quoted

dazedjosh

Yeah nice one, thanks for that, I'll adjust accordingly. The condition that a player must have come out of contract after eight years to then qualify for Unrestricted Free Agency at 10 years has been removed (irrespective of when a player had signed his previous contract, all ten-year players are Unrestricted Free Agents);

Maximumlnsanity

> it probably explains the reports that Sydney were dangling Hewett more trade at the end of last year. Only one guy reported that, no one else did

4nyonbthhytnhklnr

Sure, but he's not exactly a high profile player (he basically didn't play last year) so the fact he's a high earner this year makes sense in that context tbh

Maximumlnsanity

I think it's because of how long they've been in the AFL right? Like Hewett's been around for 8 years but Parker's in his 11th season

DENTAL_PLAN__

Oh my mistake, I thought unrestricted was only 8 years plus and not in 25% of earners. Must have skimmed that 10 years plus part.

Maximumlnsanity

Yeah once you hit 10 you're automatically unrestricted.

joshyrA

Apparently Gray and Hartlett are closing in on one year extensions. Would imagine Woodcock and Mots sign on

feelingmyoatss

Sign up libba and I’m happy. Wallis should find a new club, too good to be wasting away in the VFL

ForsakenPriority3767

Today we announce the results of the independent review of our carlton coaching department. We found that David Teague brought with him a toxic culture from the Adelaide crows. Unfortunately there was still underlying toxicity lingering from Stephen triggs time as ceo here. This mutated , much like covid 19 has..highly contagious strain of shit south Australian culture.. We have recommended that the AFL sanction adelaide two years worth of draft picks and cut Thier soft cap by half. We out right reject the accusations that Mathew Pavlich holds a grudge against adelaide, from when they refused to pay him what he was asking, when he requested a trade to Adelaide and the run ins on field he had in his playing days with David Teague. All south Australian linked dead wood will be removed, including Mitch McGovern and eddie betts, whose lingering toxic culture, brought over from Adelaide helped mutate triggs and Teagues toxicity.

Godlee84

There’s been all this talk about Cerra leaving Freo at the end of the season yet I can’t see his name in either restricted or not restricted list.

McSquack

He’s just out of contract I’m pretty sure, still a few years short of FA.

Godlee84

Cheers mate. So does that mean if he wants to leave Freo can refuse and he’d have to go to draft?

Sleepingonitall

The club would have to agree a trade. If not, then the draft(s) are the next step

Godlee84

That’s what I thought, cheers mate.

K8syk8

This article confirms there are too many "Journalists" and not enough content! We're at the half-way point of the season and there's articles being produced highlighting who is out of contract, purely to fuel speculation and debate as to how and where players could move to rival clubs, when none of this can take place until the end of the season, at which point the majority of those players listed will have confirmed their intentions moving forward, meaning less players to discuss in the hypotheticals, less fan engagement, less revenue attracted in sponsorship deals, none of which goes back to the fans 🙄

GrowthhackerAU

Disagree. The bye rounds are traditionally when a lot of talent sit down with club and agent and agree to new deals. Quite a few this week already.
