Twomey's Draft Team of the Year: WA ball-magnet makes his mark

bit harsh removing two kids that couldn't play isn't it?
nah I just read it that the outs are still in the conversation but not playing so can't be appraised at this point...he wouldn't be suggesting that Raak isn't in the legit best 22 in the land if the whole pool was fit...
Interesting that nobody took a stab at him in the mid season if he is rated so highly
He's a third tall/intercepting defender, don't think anyone exactly had a need for that.
I would've thought a number of clubs (like North) were in a position to just target young talent rather than directly fill a need for now. If there was a potential first (or early second) round available for "free" I would've thought it would be a fair win
Hard to say without being a list manager but there seems to be a different approach to the mid season compared to national draft and drafting for the future in the mid season may mess up whatever plans you have for the national draft.
Besides Raak would likely be a late second at absolute best despite form.
Yeah fair point, he certainly looks like a decent product prospect so will be keen to see how his career pans out
I dunno how all that works tbh...firstly you have to nominate...there must be a heap of reasons the top kids aren't nominating before the national draft...injuries would be one of them...form, development schedules/opportunities, contract considerations, education etc etc...haven't seen much of Raak myself but he's been on draft radars for a couple of years...
Most of those would vary player to player except contract.
There's more contract security by going to the national draft, you get the two years right of the bat. The mid season is only a short term contract to see out the season so if something happens you can be gone just as quickly as you came in. It's also just a rookie contract not a main list, so I assume rookie list rules apply.
As for Raak, he hasn't been on the radar that long, last year was his draft year and completely overlooked, not even rookie-d by the Dogs as an NGA kid. Still in our NGA and on our VFL list now.
Raak had definitely nominated for the mid season - his name kept popping up in the potential draftees/mid season draft rankings
I didn't say he didn't nominate for the mid season. And his form this year has been really good and even unexpected. I'm just saying he got overlooked in his draft year.
cheers for the info reg contracts...makes sense...I thought Raak's draft year was this year?...didn't know he was around Dogs academy?
Nah he nominated last year and slipped through completely, likely due to the rookie list spots changing so we didn't have space. Yeah he's on NGA list, still is. Trained with us over the summer etc.
> he wouldn't be suggesting that Raak isn't in the legit best 22 in the land if the whole pool was fit...
ahhh, yes he probably would
It's an article he does every week. Seems like he just makes reasons to make 2-3 changes every week, so the article doesn't become stale.
