Dayne Beams claims retirement contract payout was ‘outside the salary cap’

Dayne Beams claims retirement contract payout was ‘outside the salary cap’

Kim_jong-fun

Not a good time dayne

matt0020202

AFL being dodgy is probably the right answer.

QuadrilateralSilly

The bloke is just a total piece of work. Happy to put out his hand to collect his pay cheque for doing nothing and then turns around and makes these claims. After his best and fairest speech at Brisbane and then leaving to Collingwood very shortly after, I have taken everything he says with a grain of salt.

qldboi

Ah yes the “I’m not going anywhere, I love the club and the boys.” Then immediately requests a trade like a month later.

marriage_iguana

I remember very clearly there was a “Collingwood is where my heart’s always been” or something along those lines just to really make sure that people knew he could earnestly speak out of both sides of his face. I don’t wish his mental health issues, or the tragedy of his dad’s passing on anyone, but he’s clearly never learned when to shut the fuck up, or even just give a diplomatic “no comment” when it’s warranted.

nickimus_rex

His dad died

qldboi

Yeah but that happened in the January I believe. This all happened at the end of the year.

nickimus_rex

Yeah I have a feeling it broke him mentally, they were best mates apparently, pretty rough. Loss can send you in a downward spiral

SlappaDaBassMahn

>immediately >a month later I dont think that word means what you think it means

Pragmatic_Shill

I don't think Beams has a single redeeming thing about him personally, besides his footballing ability. He's a terrible human being, and he always has been. I'm glad he's reached a point in his life where he feels his mental demons are under control, but a lot of his shitty behaviour is beyond forgiveness or excuse.

diddleedee

What's he done that's so bad? I've completely forgotten about the guy so genuine question

OhAeroHD

Oh there is a list of things he has done.

tassietigermaniac

Where does one find this list?

Metalingus13

Such as? Totally out of the loop here.

OhAeroHD

Well, stealing players credit/debit cards and cash, betting significant amounts of money on footy whilst playing and being on Collingwood’s list, owing money to particular people(possibly bikies or gangs), the payout with Collingwood that the club had settled on(spoken about now). All of which could not be true but he hasn’t exactly been an angel by any means.

CactusFamily

> All of which could not be true You forgot the fact that he seen was on the grassy knoll as well.

OhAeroHD

Yeah and that, I was trying to spit off the ones I knew well inside my head

1amtacos

I'm confused has this all been a joke or not?

Massivehog1

The evidence suggests there is something to the grassy knoll narrative, back and to the right

voidedexe

What does that mean? Google isn't being very helpful

OhAeroHD

Grassy Knoll is a new type of Marijuana. But it’s also a popular place in history if you ever wanted to see a president get his head blown off.

bfisher91

Don't forget sexual assault claims

smh_rob

Post 2010GF rape allegations

Ayush189

Wow, didn't know that he was that bad

OhAeroHD

Pretty sure he had something to do with the Stephenson betting as well to top it off

Ayush189

I always thought of him as a somewhat decent bloke, but after reading this.. well where do I start

PrettyPeterFyfealon

I can't find the article that goes further in-depth about the details in the book, but the sexual assault stuff moving away from him (with Collingwood's help) looked pretty dodgy. [https://ellymcdonaldwriter.com/tag/night-games-sex-power-and-sport/](https://ellymcdonaldwriter.com/tag/night-games-sex-power-and-sport/)

publicworksdept

This is the most important one

Fandoorfan

I'm currently reading this book after it was recommended on this sub earlier in the week. Incredible book, and really lays out that Beams is a complete piece of shit (but he's not the lone ranger there)

smh_rob

At the time it seemed like someone was made to take the fall for him.

marlon_brave

He is an advocate for mental health, there is one.

NexuOW

Ross Lyon: "I never said I'd take their call."

NimFromSudan

Either Beams is wrong, Collingwood is dodgy or the AFL is dodgy.

Azza_

Pretty sure our discussions with Beams were hoping/expecting it to be paid outside the cap, and the AFL shut that down.

autocol

The guy is as dumb as a bag of rocks. I hate the pies as much as the next guy, but there's nothing that would suggest Beams would have any clue how the money he was paid was accounted for in the Collingwood books. I'm pretty sure the repercussions Carlton suffered for intention salary cap breaches we're severe enough that no club would ever be serious enough to try it on the AFL again.

anunoriginalmanchild

Why can’t it be all three?

smh_rob

They could prob shift it outside of the cap if it went straight to paying off his gambling creditors.

OhAeroHD

This bloke picks the oddest of times to ever say anything I swear

_ApocalypsePlease_

Him and Dane Swan are so desperately trying to stay relevant its sad

OhAeroHD

Look I don’t mind Swanny, just a bit of an odd ball like Beams sometimes. But Beams for me is just a deceiving knob.

tt501

Imagine lumping Swan and Beams together. Swannie is active on twitter and likes to have a bit of a joke around sometimes, please don't compare him to the selfish "woe is me" piece of work that is Dayne Beams.

Maximumlnsanity

You're right, I don't think Beams ever assaulted a bouncer

anunoriginalmanchild

Google the book “night games”. It’s likely he did a lot worse than that.

tt501

I'm not entirely sure what that incident has to do with either one of them "trying to stay relevant" now.

Maximumlnsanity

Yeah actually you're right it's not really relevant. My bad

keto_anarchist

lmao Dayne my man why not just get on the tellie and show everyone the brown paper bag it came in

3163560

This is basically a Brock McLean moment.

fmtriker

Oh good.... my laundry is done.

glamazom

Silly Dayne. He's probably just thinking about that $30k tax deduction he claimed after Eddie bought his premiership medal.

offstage_creed

is... is that legal?

Donnie9191

It's a proud day for the Pies part 2?

bigbear-08

Proud day 2: The better boogaloo

qldboi

Beams making things worse for the Pies? Hey I’ve seen this before!

QuadrilateralSilly

You guys literally got kissed on the dick. Got rid of this knobhead and picked up Deven Robertson.

Smithsonian45

Man dev rob has actually really impressed me this season. Think he's been a really understated part of our midfield so far

Kunaal__Choks

Nick Maxwell really chose the wrong info to bring back from the Melbourne Storm....

dazedjosh

Ooohhh cross code salary cap burn. Those are rare.

indecisiveusername2

Can we have one controversy at a time please.

marriage_iguana

Think of it as like having triplets: you’re getting them all out of the way quicker this way. In 5 years, you can leave the house again.

Liath90

There should be a literal alarm sounding at AFL house right now. Frantic staffers running down the halls with bundles of papers, executives ringing lawyers, some office warden shouting about how this is not a drill.

kingkepler

what a week. first the pies take the heat off of us by announcing buckley’s resignation, now they want to create their own ‘brown paper bag’ scandal??? god bless you

Donnie9191

This feels like God getting everyone back for saying "Pies are pretty nice fellas" in 2018

Maximumlnsanity

Like usual this is all America's fault

Donnie9191

PTSD is all coming back

rm5

it was so long ago but it's all coming back to me

NexuOW

Will this be another "We investigated ourselves and found no wrong doing." ?

Radalict

"It's a proud day for our club"

Maximumlnsanity

Don't think they can investigate themselves for cheating the cap

B4DataLore

"we investigated ourselves but won't release the report untill on of our staff leaks in to the media"

nnacaroni

Eli5 what does this actually mean?

FonkyMonk

Even though Beams retired, whatever Collingwood pay him is supposed to contribute to the salary cap. Collingwood dumped a bunch of players because they didn't have enough room in their salary cap. Everyone blamed Beams for contributing to the salary cap problems. Beams defended himself because he said his payments weren't contributing to the salary cap like everyone thought. Beams accidentally revealed that Collingwood is allegedly paying him outside the salary cap.

TheMightySloth

Pies cheating the salary cap - big bad

newk86

"Ned Guy... you blowhard!" - Ned Guy

marriage_iguana

Collingwood: “welp, we’re probably done for scandals and intrigue this week” Dayne Beams: “lol”

Pragmatic_Shill

Unlike Beams to shirk responsibility or culpability for anything.

Maximumlnsanity

When it rains it pours huh

dazedjosh

If this is true............holy fuck, Collingwood's season has just gotten a whole lot worse. I genuinely didn't think that was possible. However, it could be that Dayne is incorrect as he didn't fully understand the cap situation regarding his payments and that everything was kosher with the AFL, so I'll try not to jump to any conclusions just yet. Even if I REALLY FUCKING WANT TO! My pitchfork is still in the shed............for now.

feltching4jesus

Let's be honest; Dayne doesn't seem like the kind of guy who really understands many things.

Technical-Gold5772

You are wrong, it is their decade getting a whole worse if this is true. Wouldn't it.be funny if this lead to them not being able to draft Daicos or even a fifth round pick to fill Degoey's spot when he goes on an extended holiday in August.

dazedjosh

If they miss out on daicos and dib because of this I may die from schadenfreude

Technical-Gold5772

The next pandemic? I have to keep reminding myself that it is only going to get worse for them. This circus will just keep rolling at least until Degoey fronts court for rape in August

littlemiggy

Not funny

Technical-Gold5772

Not for you lot obviously, but for the rest of us

FonkyMonk

I think he's telling the truth accidentally. He was trying to push away blame for the salary cap dump because he isn't responsible for that like everyone thinks. And then whoops...

lebrongarnet

Can't imagine that anything dodgy is going on and Beams is just misinformed. Him coming back 100% impacted the Pies' ability to fulfill their other contracts. But that still doesn't make it his fault. Pies bet it all on 2018 and brought him down knowing that it might come back to bite them.

TrazMagik

We bet it all in 2019, was Brisbane's captain first half of 2018.

lebrongarnet

Sorry you're right. Got my years wrong.

TrazMagik

Still a bad trade. Aside from the systemic racism can probably trace all our onfield woes from that trade.

Rick_Havoc

Is it outside the salary cap if he put it all on a 17 leg multi and lost?

PetrifyGWENT

This would be like banned from the draft type bad right? 🤐

Maximumlnsanity

Take the pick away from GWS

dropbearr94

They’re not Sydney

drunkill

So, will that first round pick they've given to GWS be stripped along with the others or what.

kyrant

Definitely raises questions with future pick trading that the AFL hadn't thought of.

ShibbyUp

They could always take next years off them, not that much of an issue.

Maximumlnsanity

It's what they did to the Coyotes in the NHL when they were caught draft tampering, just stripped their future 1st rounder (as well as 2nds both years)

dazedjosh

Or just move the Pies to the back of the draft this year and remove their ability to match bids on Daicos and Dib, while the Giants keep the traded pick.

danjabar

Tell us more about your gambling addiction

hart37

Poor Pies fans have been really screwed over by the club lately. It's like the second it looks like things might start turning around for them another shit show starts

iloveNCIS7

I thought the AFL told the Pies no but yeah see what happens.

Madrical

I really wanna get off this ride.

Mercedesplsslowdown

The AFL planned for Richmond to win a 4peat but then Collingwood went and ruined it against Gil's wishes so the AFL has decided to bring Collingwood crumbling down.

jrfoster01

Wow, this looks like something that needs investigation 😳

RodeoTurdClown

Can Collingwood just be normal for like, a day? I can’t keep up with all the scandal.

Lady_Penrhyn1

To be fair...its nice that Carlton aren't headlining things (today at least lol).

RodeoTurdClown

Why can’t Sydney be a basket case for a change.

Maximumlnsanity

Last time we did that the player was found guilty of assaulting his partner as well as a recent former player getting charged with sexual assault. So yeah, best to leave the basket case stuff up to some other club

dazedjosh

I was there during the early 90's. 26 straight losses. It was unpleasant.

RodeoTurdClown

Not exactly a scandalous or basket case though. More like what Gold Coast are now.

dazedjosh

Scandal wise? Maybe not. But we were proper fucked and on the verge of going under. We were far worse than Gold Coast ever were. The only team that I can remember seeing that were more of a rabble were the pre-merger Fitzroy teams.

RodeoTurdClown

I dunno. I’d say GCS are in a more perilous position than Swans were. At least you had history and an existing fanbase behind you, that counts for something. You were also able to attract the best talent in the game. Suns don’t have that.

SlappaDaBassMahn

I for one am relishing the duo scandals of carlton and Collingwood. Keep em coming I say. Obligatory get a dog up ya Collingwood ya fuckin deserve it, fuck you all ^^^yeah

littlemiggy

Old school rivalries, I love it. Feels like its diminished since the expansions. Fuck you Essendon cunts.at least we can win a final

qldboi

Wait. This isn’t normal for Collingwood?

RodeoTurdClown

Good point.

RobDogs

Collingwood’s Annus Horribilis continues

ForsakenPriority3767

Theres was an article on here posted a few weeks ago, from a western australian journalist documenting some of the double standards by the vfl. One of them was the Tippett saga where adelaide wasnt allowed to mount a defence. because they would bring up precedent. Adelaide got severe sanctions. Beams would have the evidence of what he says here. This is worse than the tippett saga.

farqueue2

The outrage in here is absurd. Everyone suggesting that Collingwood somehow cheated the cap. When the likelihood is that this was (if true) all above board and that the AFL would have full knowledge. all AFL players are insured for career ending injuries. The insurance doesn't cover mental health. So likely the AFL was exposed legally and had to bend to protect themselves.

Technical-Gold5772

True or not, things are deadset laughable at Collingwood right now. Eddie has turned out to be an Alan Mcalister clone that someone fucked up.

JorReno

Tasmanian Pievils anyone?

planchetflaw

Any chance the Buckley step down was accelerated by information about this?

Weird_Energy90

Don’t be jealous cause we rich, plebs.

diddleedee

Rich in what? Certainly not future draft picks by the look of this

alexLAD

‘We’

EJCA4

Rich in controversies? Yes!

Technical-Gold5772

Not cash, you were one of the first clubs going to the AFL with an outstretched palm last year
