I'm also on Windows 10. I use Chrome. I don't bother with the cast button since that has never worked for me. I have no idea if this will work for anyone else but what I do is open a video, play it then hit pause. The video has to be started already otherwise it won't work. Then I use Chrome's cast option then I cast it to my TV. Once it's up there, I unpause and hit full screen and watch the whole thing. To be specific, I cast to my android box, most streaming sites won't cast directly to my TV, I don't know what options other people have though. Also, an episode or movie works okay, but once the video switches to a new episode, it stops working and I have to do the whole thing again. There's also the option of casting your entire desktop on the tv, this is better if you're bingeing a series, it doesn't stop working when it switches to the next episode. I rarely use that though since everything I do on the PC shows up on the TV.
So there. It's definitely not a fix, that's why I called it a workaround. Also, I have no idea what other people's computer/TV setup is, so this might not work but hopefully someone with a similar setup will find this helpful.
What you're describing is essentially screen mirroring for Android or what Samsung calls smart view or whatever. The ~~video~~ whole tab is rendered in the browser on the host and then streamed to the casting device. This is not ideal as the resolution, framerate, and audio is worse. It's like somebody sitting in the movie theater with a camera and then you watching what the camera sees. So yes, it's a workaround, but I'd rather the casting device load the media stream natively like it's done perfectly for years now. Thanks though 👍
Also, it doesn't work between episodes because the next episode stops "screen mirroring" or casting the tab and tries to cast the media natively, which as we know, is broken.
try other video hosts
Each of the 4/5 hosts that support casting have the same problem
Are you casting from phone or PC?
I got the same problem, and that is from a phone. Don't know about OP
Casting doesn't work for me too. I found a workaround but only from PC though, so I asked OP since I can't help if they're casting from phone.
Android phone and Windows 10 PC both have the same problem

Also rip battery if you use a phone to do this

I have just tried the same today, and all supporting casting did failed as you describes it. I hope it's just a bug that is gonna get fixed soon.
