More 12 Monkeys, That Is, With a Season 3 Renewal

With the recent renewal of Preacher for a second season and Netflix rebooting Lost in Space, it’s already been a decent week for sci-fi TV news.  Well, get ready for some more good news, because Syfy has decided to renew its acclaimed sci-fi series 12 Monkeys for a third season. We’ll be getting fewer episodes in 12 Monkeys Season 3 (10 episodes, as opposed to the 13 we got for seasons 1 and 2), but it’s nice to see it coming back. And coming back soon, with current plans for Season 3 to drop in 2017.

Showrunner Terry Matalas has already stated that the season 2 finale will set up some major changes that are going to lead into the new season. Here’s what he had to say on the renewal:
“I’m so grateful that Syfy and UCP are so invested in this show. They’ve been incredible partners and give us the creative freedom to try new things. I think that’s why 12 Monkeys is kinda special. And I personally can’t wait to tell everyone where it all goes next!”

Chris McCumber, the President of Entertainment Networks, had this to say about his decision to bring the show back:

In two short seasons, 12 MONKEYS has become a cult favorite series. Terry and the cast and crew have brought to life a rich world not confined by boundaries of time, with multi-dimensional characters whose motivations for saving the world are deeply personal and intensely relatable. It’s exactly the type of smart, on-the-edge-of-your-seat entertainment we want to bring to Syfy viewers.”

Quick Synopsis of 12 Monkeys

If you are unfamiliar with the show (or the movie it’s based on) it’s about a time traveler James Cole who travels from 2043 to the present day in order to stop the release of a deadly virus by the enigmatic organization known as “The Army of the Twelve Monkeys.” That virus, in Cole’s original timeline, caused the death of 93.6% of the world population.

So, what do you think? Are you excited to get into 12 Monkeys Season 3 next year?

Unfortunately, at this time in the world (2016 that is) perhaps removing 93.6% of the world’s population wouldn’t be such a bad thing! Most of the world’s problems would be fixed or on the way to repairing itself. Random removal of course so a mix of people remains.
