Sci-Fi Astronaut Drama Film, Pale Blue Dot, Lands Noah Hawley of Fargo Fame to Direct
Noah Hawley, who is so hot right now according to my coworker, is about to make his big screen debut with the sci-fi thriller Pale Blue Dot, according to Deadline. The film gets its name from Carl Sagan’s book Pale Blue Dot: A Vision of the Human Future in Space (published in 1994, and inspired by the famous Pale Blue Dot photograph- a picture of Earth from space in which we appear as a tiny blue speck).
It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we’ve ever known. Carl Sagan
Plot Info on Pale Blue Dot
The upcoming sci-fi movie Pale Blue Dot will star Reese Witherspoon [A Wrinkle in Time, 2018 (Mrs. Whatsit), Monsters vs. Aliens (Ginormica), Legally Blonde (Elle Woods)] as an astronaut who returns home from a mission in space and finds that reality is slipping through her fingers. Whether the cause is alien or just a psychological response to seeing Earth as a “pale blue dot,” the astronaut begins to unravel and completely disengage with reality. The film will explore the theory that astronauts are vulnerable to a mental break when they return home after staring at Earth from space for extended periods of time.
Production Info for Pale Blue Dot
Noah Hawley, who’s achieved recent fame because of the success of the TV show Fargo [but more excitingly, Legion, the Marvel show about David Haller, a mutant with a severe split personality condition (writer and creator) and Bones, the amazing murder-mystery cop-thriller starring the misanthropic anthropologist Bones trying to solve crimes (executive story editor and writer)] picked up the script for Pale Blue Dot from Brian C. Brown (producer of Legion) and Elliott DiGuiseppi (worked on Teen Wolf).
Reese Witherspoon will be producing as well as starring, alongside Bruna Papandrea, one of the producers for the adorably macabre zombie film Warm Bodies.
