George RR Martin Plans Game of Thrones Twist for Novel, Not Show

Tyrion Lanister with Crossbow - Game of Thrones plot twist planned

George R. R. Martin Plans a Big Game of Thrones Plot Twist for a Book Character Who’s Dead on the Show

Games of Thrones novelist George RR Martin is preparing a huge plot twist involving a character who is still alive in the books, but was killed off on the show by the showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. Since Martin himself has reported and apologized for not being able to finish the sixth book prior to his deadline of December 2015. The writer said that he was considering omitting this twist, and writing according to the direction of the show, but ultimately decided not to do so and to continue with his own ideas.

“I have decided to do that, yes. Will you know it? I don’t know. It’s fairly obvious, because it’s something that involves a couple of characters, one of whom is dead on the show, but not dead in the books. So, the show can’t do this, unfortunately, because they’ve killed a character that I have not killed. But that doesn’t narrow it down much, because at this point, there are like, fifteen characters who are dead in the show who are still alive in the books,” Martin stated in an interview.

The fans have begun speculating who this show-dead but not novel-dead character might be, and have compiled a list of characters still alive in the books, but dead on the show. Is the twist about the fate of Jojen Reed, or Shireen Baratheon, Mance Rayder, or perhaps about Catelyn Stark? At this point, we can only guess and wait for Martin to finish his penultimate book in the Song of Ice and Fire Series. Don’t forget to tune in for the show, however, which premieres April 24, 2016, with the book hopefully following very soon.
