We Have Now Watched the First Rogue One Movie Trailer Fifty Four Times
With the recent success of the newest movie in the Star Wars saga, episode VII – The Force Awakens, Disney must feel pretty good about all the upcoming movies in the franchise. And now that the Force Awakes has had its Blu-ray release, just three days ago, we have some exciting news for the fans of this legendary series. The first stand-alone release for the series, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, was announced some time ago, and the first Rogue One trailer has finally arrived. The plot of this movie will deal with the story of what happened between Episodes III and IV (Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope) and will follow a group of rebel spies while they attempt to steal the plans for the first Death Star and discover its weaknesses.
The movie will be directed by Gareth Edwards and written by Chris Weitz, and it will be the first SW film not directly connected to Luke Skywalker. It will feature a completely new and different squad, but you ‘ll probably take to them pretty quickly. The stars of Rogue One will be Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso, Riz Ahmed as Bodhi Rook, Diego Luna as a character still unknown to us, Jonathan Aris as Senator Jebel, and many others, while Genevieve O’Reilly will reprise her role of republic senator Mon Mothma (last seen in Episode 3) which is a nice link to the original Star Wars movies.
In the trailer, we can see Erso, and the list of her criminal background as “forgery of Imperial documents, possession of stolen property, aggravated assault, resisting arrest.” We can immediately see that the heroine of the movie is going to be a total badass, and it is really nice to see that the SW franchise will always continue having strong female warriors in their movies, such as Princess Leia, Rey, and now Jyn Erso.
And yes, that is a young Grand Moff Tarkin in the first Rogue One trailer. However, it’s probably not quite what you’re thinking. Through the use of extensive CG, they will be digitally re-creating a young version of Peter Cushing to fill the role. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story arrives December 16, so don’t miss it! (As an aside, is anyone else curious why Mark Hamill looks so pissed in the Star Wars charity video preview that plays after the trailer?)
