An official release date for the Green Lantern Corps movie has not been set, though a summer 2020 release date is rumored.
Just a ways behind Marvel and the ever expanding MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe), DC is working furiously to establish more and more movies in the DCEU (DC Extended Universe). This year, we’ll be treated to the Wonder Woman movie on June 2, 2017, and the first Justice League movie on November 17, 2017. And next year, the Aquaman movie arrives in theaters on October 5, 2018. Also somewhere in that mix, the Flash movie is also set to speed into cinemas. The Flash is a little harder to pin down, as it was scheduled to start shooting this month for a rumored July 7, 2018, release but hasn’t started shooting after two previous directors have left the project over creative differences, and DC still has yet to find a replacement. Finally, a second Justice League movie, another solo Batman movie (with the latest actor to play the Caped Crusdaer, Ben Affleck, currently set to co-write and direct as well), solo Shazam and Cyborg movies, and a Green Lantern Corps movie are all in the works as well.
It’s that last item on DC’s list with the most recent action, as THR reporting that the Green Lantern Corps movie has found its writers in comic wunderkid David S. Goyer and Justin Rhodes.
More Details on the Green Lanter Corps Movie
For those who aren’t familiar with Goyer, it makes sense that DC would tap him for scripting duties, as he’s already deeply involved with the DCEU. How involved? Well, after helping develop the story for all three of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, including a credit for co-writing Batman Begins, Goyer wrote the screenplay for 2013’s Man of Steel, co-wrote the screenplay for last year’s Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice, developed and showran the short-lived Constantine series on NBC, and is working with Syfy on creating the TV series Krypton, which explores the events that led up to the destruction of Superman’s homeworld.
Not many details have been confirmed regarding the Green Lantern Corps movie, though the corps will reportedly appear in a key sequence in the upcoming Justice League movie, and the movie itself will feature a number of Earth’s Green Lanterns, including both Hal Jordan and John Stewart. Apparently, the 2011 Green Lantern was set to launch the new DCEU proper, but those plans were put on hold after it was not well received by either comic fans or the movie going public in general.
No release date has been officially set for the Green Lantern Corps movie, though it is currently rumored that it holds the July 24, 2020, release date on DC’s release schedule.
