The first of the Chaos Walking movies is currently set to go into production next year.
Tom Holland, who played everyone’s favorite neighborhood wall-crawler in Captain America: Civil War earlier this year (and is set for at least 3 movies as the web-slinger), is reportedly in talks to join the cast of the upcoming Chaos Walking movies.
According to THR, he would be playing the primary role of the young man on the run with his dog, while Daisy Ridley (who signed on a few months ago) would be playing the role of the mute girl he encounters while on the run.
If Holland does end up joining the cast, this is starting to look like a very interesting project.
Update 8-4-16: The Chaos Walking Movies Are Getting Star Power in the Form of Daisy Ridley
With Doug Liman now in place to direct the Chaos Walking movies, working from a script by We Are Marshall scribe Jamie Linden (which it sounds like may retain some of Charlie Kaufman’s earlier draft), the first bit of casting news has arrived via Variety. Daisy Ridley (Rey in Star Wars: the Force Awakens) is joining the cast, most likely as the mysterious “silent girl” encountered by the protagonist as he sets out on an epic journey with his dog.
According to Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer, the first of the Chaos Walking movies is set to go into production next year.
Original Post 6-14-16 Doug Liman Jumps Onboard the Chaos Walking Movies
Director Doug Liman, no stranger to sci-fi with films such as Jumper and Edge of Tomorrow, may be delaying the Gambit movie in order to jump on another sci-fi project, an adaptation of the Chaos Walking trilogy. And with Liman in negotiations to direct the Chaos Walking movies, some are assuming the worst for Gambit, which has already experienced a series of delays.
What’s Chaos Walking About?
The Chaos Walking trilogy is another young adult sci-fi dystopia (see also The Hunger Games, The 5th Wave, The Maze Runner, The Divergent series, and many others), set in a post-apocalyptic landscape where women have seemingly all been killed off by germs, and all living creatures can now hear each other’s thoughts. The series follows a young boy and his dog (spoiler, I bet every time he reads the dogs mind, the dog is thinking about food…) as they are forced to flee their village after a startling discovery. Along the way, they meet a mysterious mute girl. The series was previously set to be helmed by Robert Zemeckis (Back to The Future, which is the only credential he’ll ever need), working from a screenplay by Charlie Kaufman (Being John Malkovich, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), but they appear to have lost interest in the project and moved on, leading to Liman’s reported interest in the project.
And while this doesn’t mean the end for the Gambit movie, it likely means a delay as apparently Liman would start on the first book in the Chaos Walking series after wrapping action thriller The Wall for Amazon, but before getting started with the Ragin’ Cajun’s cinematic debut. Lionsgate will be taking part in producing and distributing the movie.
