Every so often, we like to highlight great new science fiction books as they’re released. And this week, we’re excited to highlight Behind the Throne, the sci-fi adventure debut from author K.B. Wagers. We’re pretty excited for this one, in part because of the strong advance praise it’s been receiving.
Synopsis for Behind the Throne
Hail Bristol has made a name for herself across the galaxy as a smuggler and gunrunner to be feared. But now, her world is about to get a whole lot more dangerous when she learns she’s the sole remaining heir to the Indranan Empire, and someone wants to end her family line.
Praise for Behind the Throne
OK, OK, I know what you’re thinking. “That old rub, again? What smuggler isn’t secretly the heir to a massive empire these days?” Kidding aside, as mentioned, the book is picking up strong notices. Publisher’s Weekly, for example, gave it a starred review, and said, “Taut suspense, strong characterization, and dark, rapid-fire humor are the highlights of this excellent SF adventure debut.”
The Library Journal agreed with that assessment, saying that “This debut ranks among the best political SF novels in years, largely because of the indomitable, prickly Hail. The secondary characters—from the trackers who are Hail’s only allies at first, to a conniving cousin—are fascinating as well.”
And finally, bookseller Barnes and Noble had this to say “Wagers’ debut is twisted and fast-paced, set in a world well stocked with complex politics and complicated characters worth caring about.”
Ordering Behind the Throne
Even better, if you enjoy the company of Hail Bristol, and spending time in the Indranan Empire, you won’t have to wait long to return. The sequel, After the Crown, is set to be released on December 16th, 2016. Just in time for Christmas!
