Hallelujah! AMC Preaches To Us For a Second Season

Cassidy from Preacher TV show - Preacher Season 2 announced by AMC

Preacher Season 2 Is Also Receiving An Expanded Episode Order

With the overpowering presence of shows like Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead, it seems like shows such as AMC’s Preacher, based on the comic series, might get lost in the shuffle. Starring Dominic Cooper as Jesse Custer (the titular Preacher), Joseph Gilgun as Cassidy (a hard-drinking Irish vampire) and Ruth Negga as Tulip (the Preacher’s ex), the show tells a story of a small town preacher who suddenly receives godlike powers that enable him to convince any person to do his literal bidding. Turns out, however, that the fans have responded, and AMC has confirmed Preacher will be getting a second season. Even better, they’re increasing the episode order, and will be giving us 13 episodes of crazy goodness in Preacher Season 2.

According to numbers released by AMC, Preacher is the #2 new series on cable this year among adults age 18-49 and is currently pulling in 3.3 million viewers every episode.

Here’s what Charlie Collier, president of AMC, SundanceTV and AMC Studios, had to say on the renewal of Preacher, “Preacher is a special television program and we’re eager to share with fans the rest of this wild first season and, now, an expanded second season. What Sam, Seth, Evan and the entire creative team have achieved in bringing Garth Ennis’ graphic novel to the screen is extraordinary. We look forward to more time with these unforgettable characters be it in Heaven, Hell, Texas or beyond.”

Preacher Season 2 Arrives Next Year

Though Preacher Season 2 is slated for next year, AMC has specified yet if it will follow a spring/summer release like the first season, or be part of the fall schedule. On a related sidenote, Chris Hardwick (though admittedly, it may not be in his power) definitely needs to come up with unique names for the after-show shows on AMC. Talking Dead worked for The Walking Dead, but Talking Saul and Talking Preacher? Not so much. I’d offer up some suggestions (Confessions of a Preacher, Preaching to the Choir) but you’d probably all mock me. Who’s excited for Preacher Season 2?
