UPDATE: New Alien: Covenant Short Film Gives First Look at Captain

Alien: Covenant Will be hitting theaters on May 19th, 2017.

Fox has just posted an Alien: Covenant short film called Last Supper, which they say is the official prologue to the upcoming movie. One interesting detail the short film reveals is James Franco’s role in the movie, which is as the captain of colony ship Covenant.

It’s a little odd to see Franco and McBride reunited in a more serious setting, and while the short film is fairly, well, short, it does offer a few nice “slice of life” moments of the crew, and hint at a few tensions.

Check it out, and tell us what you think in the comments below:

Update 12-27-16: Alien: Covenant’s First Trailer Promises a Lot of Aliens

The first trailer for Alien: Covenant has arrived, just in time for Christmas. And among other things, the trailer is promising that the movie will be filled with aliens. And, they will not be playing nice. Keep in mind this is the red-band trailer, so NSFW.

Also, there’s no sign of the recently revealed James Franco in the trailer, so it’ll be interesting to see what role he ends up playing.

So, what does everyone think? Are you ready for some more intense, Ridley Scott directed alien action?

UPDATE 12-20-16: James Franco Signs on to Alien: Covenant

Variety is reporting that James Franco has officially joined the cast of Alien: Covenant, something that was rumored earlier in the week. There’s no word yet on what role he might be playing.

UPDATE 11-30-16 Happy Birthday to Ridley Scott!

Just a very quick update, it was Ridely Scott’s birthday, and to help celebrate, the filmmakers shared this photo from the set, with Ridley by the ever-mysterious Space Jockey:

Good news for Aliens fans: the latest installment in the series has been bumped up from its previously scheduled August 4, 2017, release date to a May 19, 2017, release date.

In addition to this welcome bit of news, the first official post for the movie has been revealed, and it’s a keeper. Simple, scary, effective.

With the release date now bumped up, it’s likely we’ll be seeing a trailer sooner than expected as well.

Update 10-30-16  More Details on Michael Fassbender’s two roles.

While it’s been known for some time that Micahel Fassbender would be playing two synthetic / android characters in the upcoming Alien: Covenant movie, one being David from the Prometheus crew, and the other being a new, updated model who’s part of the Covenant crew, additional details have been sparse.

Now, thanks to AVPGalaxy and an interview with Fassbender in Irish Times, we have some additional details.

The android that is part of the Covenant crew is named Walter. Also, spoilers ahead if you’re looking to go into the movie as fresh as possible. Here’s what Fassbender had to say:

“I am allowed to say I am playing two robots – Walter and David. I think what’s great about it is that Ridley has gone back to the original DNA of Alien, the horror element of that. But is also has the scope and the scale of Prometheus. Ridley has cut it already. He is a machine. He is an incredible human being and he was in such good form. He is such an imaginative and mischievous figure.”

Now, AVPGalaxy is also saying that they’ve also learned that Walter does not like David, and mistrusts him as he is an older model and “has gone without any form of maintenance or upgrades during the ten year interval he has been in isolation between the Prometheus incident and the Covenant crew making landfall on the supposed paradise planet that Alien: Covenant takes place on.

Original Post 5-26-16: Leaked Photos From Alien: Covenant Set Give Plot Hints

It’s been almost 20 years since the last movie in the original Alien franchise was made, Alien: Resurrection. But in 2012, we got a revival of the series, so to speak, with Prometheus, a prequel of sorts that laid the groundwork for explaining how it all began. That story is being continued in the upcoming Alien: Covenant, which is now in production.

Plot details have been closely guarded, and information has been hard to come by, but recently leaked photos from the set in Sydney, Australia, where they’re currently filming an abandoned quarry, may provide some clues. The set is believed to be various locations on the Engineer homeworld, and what we can see is carnage. There’s been some sort of slaughter of aliens on top of temple stairs, various humanoid bodies petrified in pain, a huge cracked stone Engineer head, massive tree trunks that hint at a devastated ancient forest setting, a stone wall engraved with hieroglyphic markings, and some lizard-like creatures fighting the humanoids.

Based on these photos, it looks like Alien: Covenant will not be lacking the in the “epic-ness” department. And if that’s not enough leakage of photos for you, another one just arrived showing the first glimpse of Katherine Waterston as Daniels, the movie’s new protagonist.

Katherine Waterston on the set of Alien: Covenant

Here’s the official synopsis from Fox:

Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Alien: Covenant, starring Waterston, Michael Fassbender, Demian BichirBully Crudup and Danny McBride is set to hit the screens on August 4th, 2017. It’s going to be hard to wait that long for more sweet Alien action.

I sure hope this doesn’t suck, I adored where they were going with Prometheus and wish Noomi Repace would have been included along with the Engineer Homeworld. As it looks now we are going to get an Alien sequel instead….which I would have rather had from the guy who made Chappie, yeah I now it is still on but Ridley has decided to double dip and skip the original idea he had going with Prometheus. Scott should have went with the whole Annunaki crossed with Christendom meets Horror film.
