Harrison Ford as Han Solo pointing a blaster at his head - Alden Ehrenreich Confirmed As Lead In New Han Solo Movie

Have There Ever Been Larger Shoes To Fill Than In The New Han Solo Movie?

Yeah, it’s official. A little over a month ago, eight young actors became the source of intense speculation when it was announced they were the “shortlist” vying for the primary role in the new Han Solo movie. Well, eight has now become one, and 26-year-old Alden Ehrenreich has won the coveted role.

“So who is Alden Ehrenreich,” you may be asking. Well, he’s relatively new to the scene, but for anyone who caught the Coen Brothers movie earlier this year, Hail Caesar!, he played the role of Hobie Doyle, the rising western star and investigator / helping hand to Josh Brolin’s studio head. And, for those of you who saw the movie, you also know that he gave a wonderfully awkward, charming, and funny performance as Doyle, skillfully stealing scenes like a seasoned pro, and keeping pace with acting heavyweights like Brolin, Ralph Fiennes and George Clooney.

And earlier this week, on May the 4th (Star Wars Day to the fans) the director of the new Han Solo movie, Chris Miller (The Lego Movie) tweeted a picture of Han’s iconic blaster, hopefully confirming it as an official prop for the movie;

The reaction to the news on twitter has been largely positive, with most people supporting the choice of Alden Ehrenreich as the new Han Solo. There have also been more than a few choice jokes, with this one landing particularly well for me:

So, how do you all feel about this news?

Is Ehrenreich a scruffy enough looking nerf-herder for the new Han Solo movie? Or would you rather have seen someone else in the role?
