Here are the best, most awesome science fiction video games you can expect in 2017!

We have a ton of great new original science fiction video games coming out in 2017, as well as some anxiously awaited sequels. Stock up on Mountain Dew Code Red now, because you probably won’t be leaving the house for a while when these games come out. I’m personally really excited for Scalebound (playable, customizable dragons? Hell yes.)


 Set in Draconis, you will play as Drew, a modern young man with a dragon arm as he fights alongside Thuban, his dragon and companion. Though you can control Thuban, the dragon will also act independently, and you can customize his armor and weapons!

Mass Effect: Andromeda

Long after the events of the last 3 ME games, you will choose from one of the children of Ryder, an N7 (a Pathfinder tasked with discovering new planets for humanity), and carry out your fathers legacy alongside your sibling. You will explore the galaxy aboard the controllable star ship Tempest.

Injustice 2

This sequel to the 2016 Injustice game will introduce new settings, characters, and loot, as well as a brand new Gear System, allowing players to build their own versions of the characters with customized character-specific loot drops!

Horizon Zero Dawn

You will play as Aloy, a hunter and archer who lives in a world overrun by robots. Having been trapped inside her whole life, she decides to see what’s so dangerous and heads out into the free-roam world with ranged and melee weapons and stealth tactics to combat the mechanized creatures whose remains can also be looted for resources.

The Walking Dead

This new Walking Dead game will be set after the Survival Instincts catastrophe, and appears to be incredibly dark in tone (the first trailer feature a little girl eaten by zombies and suicide).

Resident Evil: Biohazard

Ethan, a regular guy with no real combat experience, is searching for his missing wife. Unfortunately, that quest leads him to a horrifying mansion, home to the even scarier Baker family. He’ll run up against “mutant creatures” and have a small arsenal at his disposal. And yes, you will still need to find healing herbs.

Quake Champions

This dark game is inspired by Lovecraft and Doom, and follows Ranger, the last survivor of a government experiment with teleportation technology that lead to the opening of a “slipgate” allowing the monstrous Quake to send death squads through.

Peter Parker is tech’d out in this non-movie-related Spider-Man game. I don’t know much about the plot, but the E3 trailer looks siiiiiiiiiiick.

Morgan Yu is stuck on a spaceship with many alien hostiles with a ton of different abilities. The map is unique as it will be continuous, no “levels” or “stages,” and you can float outside the spaceship to find shortcuts between the areas of the map. Morgan is a customizable character (can be male or female) who will slowly learn how to use some of the aliens abilities over the course of the game.

Halo Wars 2

This sequel to the original Halo Wars live-action strategy game will allow you to play from an aerial view (instead of first person) and play as (or fight against) a new alien race called The Banished.

Days Gone

Set in the beautiful, volcanic scarred high-desert of the Pacific Northwest”, Days Gone will have you play as Deacon St. John, a bounty hunter who has had just about enough of the safe zones and heads out on the road in this open-world action-adventure game. A couple years after a global pandemic, the majority of survivors are zombie-things called “Freakers” that are constantly learning and evolving.

State of Decay 2

Detroit Become Human

A neo-noir video game that revolves around escaped androids, like Kara who escapes the factory she was made in to explore her newfound sentience, and Conner, the person who’s supposed to hunt down escaped/out of control androids. This consequence-based game will kill off the main characters based on your choices, so be smart!

Batman Arkham War

In the fifth installment of the Arkham series, Batman will face the Penguin, Two Face, Harley Quinn, and many more in one final war for the fate of Gotham. From the E3 trailer, the graphics look absolutely fantastic.

Nier Automata

You will play as android 2B who fights alongside her fellow android companions against alien robot invaders to reclaim Earth for the humans. The humans are holed up on the moon, from where they send down the combat androids.

Agents of Mayhem

Set in the Saints Row universe, you will play as 3 agents of M.A.Y.H.E.M. at one time (there are 12 to select from) and you can switch in between them in order to prevent the evil L.E.G.I.O.N. from destroying the world. The animation is like an urban Borderlands: comic book-y but with a dash of manga.

Final Thoughts

I’m really excited to see so many new science fiction video games (hopefully series if they’re good!) coming out next year. I think I may have to tighten my purse strings and buy a new generation console this year since I’m still rocking the 360.
